Subject: Saving Your Hair, Having Another Character, and some Movement Questions...

Hello there once again. I'm pleased to have found this forum where there are lots of helpful people (my first query was answered right away, which resulted in me learning faster...) Anyway, I've been experimenting for a while but I'm quite stuck in some aspects which I will list below: 1. Let's say I gave my model a nice hairstyle and I wanted to re-use it on some other models, can I save the hairstyle I created in the Hair Room? And How? *Reason is... on my computer, when I've created the hairstyle on my model already, it slows down my pc. I think that by NOT having the hair and doing the animations first will make my work faster, and I can just add the hair later on. 2. I tried importing another model to be part of a "scene" that I made with another model (of course with hair, causing my pc to slow down), so I wasn't able to check well if I could animate my imported model along with the other model that I'm working on. *I'm trying to make a fight scene, which leads me to another thought...... 3. About the movement, I can't seem to make my model to jump or "FLOAT" from one position to another. How do I make my model get away from being at one point of the scene? (Of course, without using the preset walk animations that seem to do the trick) *I'm planning on making a "Jump Kick" scene where Model A jumps into the air TOWARDS Model B, and lands a strong kick... 4. Is it also possible to do shape changing animations? Like, let's say, on my first frame my Model looks like a normal kid, then he undergoes a "shape-shift" effect and causes his arms to increase in length and his hands become BIG? *Well... shape shifting seems a nice touch every now and then... Well, those are my main concerns for now. Thanks in advance again people!

If you uncheck the Inverse Kinematics it is easier to make figures jump. Shape Shifting is possible and fairly easy. Just keyframe the 2 different states and make sure there is enough frames between them and voila: shape shifting. Of course you will have to scale his arms/hands as you please. Also you may want to look for bvh files, there are some free ones around, not long ago there was a thread here with a lot of links. Try searching for bvh. bvh files are motion capture files that can be applied to Poser figures with amazing results. Oh and: Welcome to Renderosity. A place almost more addictive than Poser itself ;o)

Hey hey hey! Thanks for the reply=) Actually, I "accidentally" discovered that movement part just now while I was playing around with my "rugbyboy" character (he's like addicted to the scent of rugby and he's got scars all over him... from fights!) while I was making him do some "matrix" styled action fun... Hmm.. thanks for confirming my thoughts on shape-shifting... I'll try that later on (I have to... sleep first... a few nights with poser is fun!) And thanks for telling me about that BVH thing... I've read about it while browsing around but I had no idea what it was lol=) Well, with people like you around here, there's no doubt that I'll be happy with this community of 3D manipulators=)

A hint for jumping: look through the Pose library, find the "Animation Poses". I think they are separated into male and female, but that's not critical. There are some good jumping patterns in that set; you can either run the complete set of frames as given, or locate a couple of good-looking instants and let the animation smooth out (spline) between them. Even for walking, it's often easier to apply the pre-made Poses at chosen instants, than to use the Walk Designer.

The best way to make wigs (that can be used with multiple characters) is to start with a skullcap. PhilC has free skullcaps available in the Freestuff section (search for "skull" or "skullcap"). When you save the hair prop, you need to ensure you select (from the popup dialog box) every hair group that you've created as well as the skullcap.
