Subject: OK, about the latest Victoria update...

Two things: 1. When I ran the exe, it defaulted to install it on my Desktop. Is it supposed to do that? I changed it to my Poser 4 directory. 2. How can I tell if they're actually there? I looked at my Vickie character and I can't tell if the updates are there. I'm not sure what I should be looking for. Melanie PS: Just curious if everyone's Vickie character comes in with her legs bent at the hip. You can't tell from a forward view, but when I change to the right or left camera, her legs appear to be bent slightly forward, like she's starting to sit down.

I had a similar problem when I started to do the update. However, I got the new images in the library and when I clicked on them, I got a message saying that Poser couldn't open the figure. What I did is create a folder called Poser on a seperate partition and unpacked them to there. Then moved them into the correct folders on the Poser drive. Since then they've worked with no problem. And yes, Vickie did start with her knees slightly bent, but I've since resaved over the top in a new default position. Paul

You can also 'browse' for the place you'd like the cr2s to go-but, like Paul, I just made a folder and then moved them manually. I don't think you can 'see' the differences. Chad referred to the fact that I was getting black rings around the wrists in the long dress and that the upgrade would correct that--which it did. I haven't altered my default woman yet because I know I'll pose her, so it doesn't make a lot of difference (except for the morphed long dress). Diane B

Oh, Melanie, I take that back--you should have a new Vicky called Vicki I think, in your library. They should say Vicki and Vicki Map 2 (if you bought the maps). Diane B

OK, there's no new figure in my library, just the ones that were already there. Where in the world did the files go? Is it supposed to open the setup to my Desktop, or is it supposed to go to my Poser library? I'm really confused. I'm afraid that the files are floating all over my computer somewhere. I'm toying with the idea of getting a new computer and that will create a whole new set of problems for me (i.e., transferring all those Vickies to the new one), which will have me working for hours. My current computer doesn't have a writable CD drive, so all the downloads I've collected up and installed will have to go onto floppies (the new computer will have a CD-R, definately!) Thanks for the help. I'll go on a search for the lost files. I appreciate all of you so much. Melanie

It set up on my desktop also. So I just opened up the folders saw where they went and installed them myself. Her legs were bent also. Marge

Hi, I think maybe the slightly bent legs are required for IK to work properly, in that if the legs were dead straight then IK would not know which way to bend the legs if the hips are pushed downward. Could be wrong though? Ian

Zygote is issuing a new autoinstall type... how to make it work like the old one :) As some of you have noticed, about half of Zygotes executables are now coming out wanting to install to your desktop. You CAN do that and then manually copy each file to its correct folder name and place in Poser. That is just a shit load of work though, isnt it. Ok, here is how to do this right. When you click the executable, and it politely informs you that it is going to install on your desktop, decline the offering and direct it to the ROOT of your Poser folder. For most of us on a PC who installed with default setup that would be a path like this: C:/Program Files/Metacreations/Poser 4 One you have that entered into the dialogue of the new autoinstaller, it installs happy as a clam to your Poser and puts everything where it should live. Hope this helps :) Liz

Incidently, if you ever have to reinstall Poser, make sure you put it in a directory right off the root of your hard drive or logical drive, I can't belive how much time is saved in moving stuff around if it is E:PoserRuntimeGeometriesWhatever rather than c:program filesmetacreationsPoserrunntimegeometrieswhatever. I seem to spnd more time moving files around than I do building models, at times!

Oh yes, Jim. That is right at the top of my: "if I had it to do all over again (on my computer)" list. Melanie, give a thought to having more than one hard drive.

picnic ( ) posted Fri, 19 May 2000 at 1:54 PM

Boy, that would be on my 'wish list' (which is more than a year away anyhow). And--I certainly would install Poser elsewhere than as it is now--like Jim, I'm always 'digging' it seems--as is most everybody. BTW, Melanie, if you are getting a new computer, throw in a CD burner. Not sure how I got along without it before--altho' a second HD would be 'another' way--I'd opt for both. Whoops, just noticed you already have a CD-RW on your list. Diane B

Jaager, I have two hard drives and one of them is partitioned into two, so it appears as though I have three. I'm half-seriously considering getting a new computer. I could use a Pentium III. I have a Cyrix and not much memory. It's an older computer, so I could really use a new one. Melanie
