Easy get a cube and then right click on it's texture on the right hand side of the screen. Pick edit material. On that fist window that opens up check that part that says mapped picture then browse to the picture. You can also there adjust different mapping type and also set the quality. Bycubic is best. You then click on bumps and do it again. See page 246 in the book for that. Almost every channel can be mapped with a image using that same idea.
I don't know about the jpg's I never noticed a problem with them. I don't really like jpg though so I don't use them much. You got to realize too there is two different kinds and then 3 different types of compression that is used to make them. It's possible one of the types is giving vue problems. I'd say interlaced off hand cause it's made for the web only not computers. Like it's a web file to make the web work better.Lots of programs have problems with those. They load in layers and lots of programs have problems with those types.Quake III /others. You can always tell those jpgs because on first viewing them you see a poor quality image that gradually improves as it's being downloaded. That'a interlaced. If you have problems change them to bmp. Works every time.
