Subject: Can't open exist Poser 5 file.

Hello all,

I am currently working with CL tech support on this, but you all have been so helpful, that I thought I would run this by you. I have screen captures to add to this, to show what is happening. I e-mailed them here to work, but the e-mail never showed up. MSN?s wonderful file size attachment limit, I?m assuming. I?ll have to wait until I get home from work to upload the pic?s.

This is going to be hard for you to see without the pic?s, but I?ll do my beat to explain it to you.

I start up Poser just fine, I have the default figure, and I can work in it fine. However, if I open an existing file (one I saved from within P5) the screen goes blank. Not that I get kicked out or leave Poser. All I can see is the background, what you would normally see behind all the windows.

I have found that if I click where my working window is (document window?), I get most of the windows and editing tools back. However the document window is blank, there is no figure. Below the window it even says ?No Figure? ?No Actor?.

Now I mentioned that I only get some of the editing tools back. The preset camera settings, to the left of the window, that move with the doc window, and the ones to the right are not there, neither are the moving tools above the window. If I do a ?Show all tools? from the pull down window, I get them back. However, when everything is blank, the show all tools option does not do anything.

At this point is does not matter is if I try to open another file or create a new file, the same thing happens. I have to physical exit Poser to get the default figure back, or get one from the library.

I can't help but wonder if I am doing something wrong when saving a file. It seems pretty basic though.

I think that is everything, it certainly is enough.

Any thoughts or suggestions.

Thank you in advance,

Renegade

heyas; i've seen poser 5 do this on a file: new, but never on a file: open. first: where/how was the pz3 saved? from p4, from p5, pro pack? was it a file you saved? one you downloaded? is it a pz3 or a pzz? second... hmmm... when you select the file to open, how do you open it? double click on it? click on it, then hit the 'open' button? type the name in and hit enter? click on it and hit enter? right click on the name and say open? and at which point does everything disappear? when you hit the file name, or after you hit the button or enter? one thing you can try is: go to file: import: poser document or prop, and try to load the file that way. also, do you have the latest patch?

I used to get something very similar with P4! When it happened to me, if I looked in the hierarchy... all of the parenting was gone. Sometimes I could import the file into a new file and salvage some of it. But, it was usually a sign of a corrupt file. Well, I may not be able to help, but I can sympathize with you. :)

The file is a file I created in P5. It does not matter how I open the file, whether from within Poser or out. The screen disappears as soon as I answer, don't save, to the file I am currently in. The file was saved by doing a file save. Yes I have the SR2.1 patch and the figure patch. I believe I have resolved the issue by doing a uninstall/reinstall. Yea!!! <- meant sarcastically However, if you have any further suggestions, I am interested, just in case it comes up again. Thank you for your response, Ren

heyas; aha... after you say 'don't save' (your current scene), and the screen goes blank... how long do you wait until you panic or get annoyed and start clicking? :) because it can take a long time for p5 to open something!
