Hello I need a small program to preview Illustrator files. I have hundreds of files and it's very hard to keep track of them. Does such a program exits ? Freeware would be fine. OR Is it possible to convert .AI files into JPG or GIF as a batch process ? To generate preview of the files in this way.

I've always used IrfanView (free) for file browsing and file conversion, but I don't think it opens Adobe Illustrator files... You may want to take a look at Lightbox for browsing your ".ai" files. Not sure if it'll convert for you...

Or you can try "WhereIsIt" (they have a free "lite" version).

Holli,Just use Windows Explore...when you have the view(found in toolbar)set to thumbnail,your Ai files will show. SWAMP

Hello SWAMP I'm using computer for 16 years now but I dont understand what you mean. Viewing .AI in the expoloere would be great but how ? Sorry, can you describe it more in detail.

Hi Holli,Up at the top in your Windows toolbar,you have a setting for view....just set that to thumbnail,and you'll be able to see your file as an image instead of an icon or list. In the event you come across a file that does not show as a thumbnail(PSD or Ai)just open it in Adobe then save it back,and it will now show as a thumbnail. Hope that helps,SWAMP

NO,you don,t have to open and save 6000 files.... Go to the locating where your files are(or browes with the open dialogue window in your program). Click on the view menu. Select thumbnail. Look at your files as thumbnails. That's It. I only told you about the resave in the event one or two did not show....but that should be a rare case. You will need to do this each time you go to your files,as you don't have "view thumbnails' set as default in your Windows.Not much else I can tell you. SWAMP

well, in my case ALL the tumbnails do not show. But maybe I need another application to be installed to see the tumbnails. it works fine with .PDS files and even with 3d studios .MAX files but maybe I need to have Illustrator to see .AI files as tumbnails.
