If you have a commercial product and somebody makes something similar or better then gives it way for free that means it's time to get back to work. About a year ago sombody made a knock off of my Backdrop Tool. I simply made my backdrop better, gave the update to all the existing users and now I have a better product to sell. Am I mad at the other guy? No. I have a better product to sell and it will continue to sell because it's better! Now DAZ has their "Cyclorama" OK, the Backdrop Pro is in the works. It will be even better and a lot easier to use than that other thing. Am I mad at DAZ? No, I'll just make a better Backdrop Tool...

And besides that, we support the merchants we like and trust to make quality products. I know what I'm getting from PhilC or Nerd or Anton and gladly whip out my wallet. John, Considering your recent fiasco trying to sell a model based on another's tutorial without giving credit, you really don't have much of a leg to stand on when it comes to complaining about possible knock-offs. Why don't you take Nerd's advice and make a better product? Carolly

Hi, I tried to download the program, but I desisted, it is 13M. I am only curious and don't want to make any critics: why is so big?, I don't see any reason for this huge size.

13 meg size - it contains all components that it could possibly need to be installed. I.E. if someone has a bare system that hasn't had anything installed on it, the package has everything it needs. I could of made it 1.3 megs in size but that would of limited it to people who have the other components, and in my experience with dealing with people and computers, just because one person has something that the program requires to function properly doesn't mean someone else will. so rather then limiting it to just a tiny group of people, I included everything it could need. hope that answers your question kawecki.

I downloaded the source code and now I understand, you have done it with Visual Basic, you need all the runtime dlls. I don't use VB, only plain C and sometimes asm, so the code is very small with no extra componets.

kawecki - the coding is very small after compile and even minimal components used. Its insuring everyone will be able to use it by including all needed files. I could make a 1 meg zip, like i said but it would only work for some people rather then the majority. I think the bigest part of the package is the database drivers. Even C has needed pieces to be included for Full compatability. ;) done some programming in that in the past too, well C++.

Caleb I understand your view on distribution. AFAIK, the VB runtimes have been included since Windows 2000. Not sure about the MDAC, but I think it may be fairly common on newer systems as well (possibly with Office 2000). Since you're not selling it, it may not be an issue but I think perhaps giving a choice with a large monolithic install and a smaller one with links to the necessary MS components would be welcome for more knowledgable users. 13MB is pretty hefty for a utility, plus it's conceivable some folks may have poorly designed applications on their systems that might break on newer dlls. At any rate, not a criticism, just a suggestion. Ironically, I was interested in JHoagland's program but when it first came out, I think the demo was 10MB. On my 56K connection, it better be porn at that size and damn good porn at that :-)

Even C has needed pieces to be included for Full compatability. Not if you compile it static.
