Subject: How hard would it be (real world measurements)

xil ( ) posted Tue, 25 March 2003 at 11:31 AM · edited Sat, 30 November 2024 at 9:48 PM

I just recently read ricewinds question (V3 and breast size) and I think alot of people missed the point, (breasts can be very distracting)

But my question is, how hard would it be to set up something for poser where one could type in the measurements and a figure made? You know height and weight, that sort of thing. This would be a great help when copying people.
I wrote curious labs about this eons ago when they were asking for suggestions for poser 5. Programing is beyond me, but it seems at least most of it would be doable....

I just think it would be useful to be to have the dails relate the real world without jumping through all the hoops and using Geeps wonderful tutorial on it.

This is possible - but all measures will depend from body height (as the base unit). Basically you can assume any body size, as long as there is no size reference in the picture itself. I imported V2 as a point cloud into Metris which is a professional measurement program, took the measurements, like body volume, breast size etc and then I calculated body weight etc. You can do this for single or combined morph targets at several points and then calculate the regression curves. Finally you would end up with a curve where certain values of a morph target like "breast size" or "heavy" correspond to specified measurement. Its simple, but a lot of work. Mungo

Exactly right, xil! The idea would be to dial in or morph in a real world chest-waist-hip-cup size measurement in the proper proportion without having to rely on "Looks good to me."

I have a tendency to over do it a little in certain areas, and then the character only appears good from the main cam and zeroed out.

I'm surprised DAZ hasn't listed a corresponding, real world / body inch measurement chart somewhere in their Arcana - along with the breast dial settings at least.

OK
So umm how do we get someone to do this?
I think it would be really cool to have some way of making a "dail-a-figure", I can think of tons of uses for it too.
Heh, if for nothing else you see what the height and weight and measurements mean.

And I mean not just for breast size, but whole bodies!

Heck I would pay for such a program. And that is saying alot since I strictly in the "starving artist" camp. Imagine the uses for clothing sales and such, and the ever popular copying of popular characters.

anyone? anyone at all want to take a stab at this?

The problem is that there are a zillion of morphs you would have to do this for all and their combinatons, this is not possible. annother approach would be to do this in python -this might be possible, but I dont have time for it. The picture is an example from 31 kilos to 82 kilos at 165 cm body height with a body mass index from 11 to 30. Ths was made for illustrating body mass indices, Mungo

Now this is what I am talking about.

I realize that there are tons of morphs, but I was thinking of only keeping track of a very few, those that control weight, and maybe a couple of the overall bodyshape ones, like pear-shape, long limbs etc.
(and maybe a set for Ricewind that controls breast size by cup size)

I couldnt figure out python if tried, I couldnt code my way out of a cardboard box...

I am not even sure if I have python isnt that a pro-pack thing? I have poser 5 myself.

I could make a table for you for heavy and thin morphs - I remember there was thread once where they discussed vickies height ??????? (dont find it) Mungo

Ok that would be great, at least until I can convince someone to make a script or something! thanks for your help

"...This (picture)was made for illustrating body mass indices..." MungoPark, how / where can I learn more about this?

rnicoll ( ) posted Fri, 28 March 2003 at 5:14 PM

Generating models or morphs on demand could be really quite tricky. What could be easier is showing the current measurements, possibly with highlighting of unlikely combinations. Would that be of use?

xil ( ) posted Fri, 28 March 2003 at 5:58 PM

Anything would be of use, if you have info I would gladly take it. But knowing everything about the figures to start with would be a good start I suppose. I suppose you are correct, it something that sounds simple that really is not.

give me time - i will make the table and post it in a new thread - Mungo

thank you very much! I will keep any eye out for it
