Subject: Is there an easy way to create a thumbnail for Poser.

Renegade572 ( ) posted Tue, 25 March 2003 at 7:44 PM · edited Wed, 27 November 2024 at 9:36 AM

I have downloaded various items from the web and some of the items have no thumbnail view, within Poser. Is there a easy way to create multiple thumbnails for use within Poser? Instead of loading the item, and saving it to the library. Just thought I would ask, if I have to do it the long hard way, I guess that is what I will have to do. Thanks, Ren

It depends upon your version of Poser. Pro Pack and Poser 5 use .png format for thumbnails, which can be read and saved by many paint programs. Poser 4 uses a proprietary .rsr format for thumbnails. yarp's P3dO Explorer utility (available at SENO Software) has a thumbnail conversion plugin which allows you to convert .png to .rsr, or vice-versa.

I find some people assume you are using Poser 5 and only provide a .png which Poser 5 uses...a lot of people don't provide anything....if you have a png you can use the P3dO Explorer utilty to convert a png into a rsr...it will convert all of them in the folder with one click....so it's fast and easy. If they didn't give you anything then you'll have to make them the hard way....:>(

Make sure in render setting you have render over background image selected 1) Load a square pic as a background in a blank scene and save into the camera library. A thumb will be generated. 2) Rename and move the new thumb to where you want it Regards, Anton

Oh brother, many typos. I hate it when my brain types one thing, and my fingers type another.

Poser 5 will use png file if available. If not, it will convert the rsr to a png the first time the library is opened in Poser. You may sometimes come across a problem where a supplied png just displays a blank square in poser, but looking at it in a thumbnail viewer or arts package shows an image. The problem then is that the png has no transparency settings. Open the png in an arts package and convert to one with transparency (e.g. in PhotoShop, double click on "Background" in the layers pallette, click ok to accept "layer 0" as new name, then resave) -- Mark
