Subject: Spamming Poser Free Stuff

I think we should have some guide-lines here, rather than load 40 files and fill up Free Stuff for 5 pages some of these items should really be combined. I would guess most of the downloaders would also really like to see them combined, too.

This is a bit OT, but thanks for your new hair Jim. I just dled it last night. Looks great. I first saw it on the Poser ng and came back looking for it. I usually run 'all new' several times a week, so would have found it sooner or later G. Diane B

I agree Jim, recently one contributer was uploading very large thumbnails to the Free Stuff which caused the page loading to slow down to a crawl. No offence to that person or to NeroPhyte but if one is not interested in hair or their particular contribution to Free Stuff it is unfair. These pages are already under a great deal of pressure because of the growing membership (416 surfers online as I type). By the same token I would like to thank NeroPhyte for (his (her?) huge contribution and many are very grateful for this but it would be easier on all if 40 had been reduced to 10 or so by combination in bigger zips.

Homestead is a pain for downlaoding, but I got there in the end, great hair Jim! As for all the other hair, it is a bit much all in one go, but you can never have enough hair right:) Thanks to you too NeroPhyte, just don't know when I'll find time to download it all (perhaps you should put it all in just a few zip files, say 5 a zip or something like).

You need to do the same trick with homestead that you do with geocities(highlight the address bar and press enter at least it worked for me) Marge

Am I the only one who found the "animations" offer went to a pay membership site? I thought that was the Spam in question. NeroPhyte's submissions can seem a bit ebullient when done in one batch, but that is not Spam. They are all meant as a gift not as a come0n.

pdblake ( ) posted Mon, 22 May 2000 at 1:50 PM

I found the animations offer too. Did you actually find anything there? I couldn't even find anything for sale.

Jim Burton ( ) posted Mon, 22 May 2000 at 2:43 PM

NeroPhyte- I didn't really mean to come down too hard on you, sorry! And I'm sure many will thank you for the hair, and especially for getting it in only 6 files!

STORM3 ( ) posted Mon, 22 May 2000 at 2:50 PM

NeroPhyte you are a decent person not just for making and sharing your work but also for taking our - hopefully constuctive - criticism without flying off the handle and also for putting yourself to the trouble of re-packing the zip files and uploading them again. Thank You.

Jim Burton ( ) posted Mon, 22 May 2000 at 3:27 PM

NeroPhyte- It was a lot like now, except people seemed to take thinks a lot easier, many seem very touchy lately, maybe even me!

momodot ( ) posted Mon, 22 May 2000 at 3:53 PM

Hi. Thank you for making and sharing the hair, and it is nice too that you remeber us with slow connections and didn't make the packages too big. I won't have a chance to try your hair out until I get home from the office but I do really aprciate new hair for the Poser female that shows her ears!

Mr. NeroPhyte, sir; please let me help you understand that the (admitted minority of) Macintosh users on this Forum achieve parity with the Wintel world through the efforts of a contributor, MartinC. His Poser Maconverter will render Poser native formats fit for the Mac environment; but it thinks .EXE is weird mystic hoodoo. Maconverter will place native file formats automagically, without any help from the boys in Redmond. Thank you for your attention.

lmacken ( ) posted Mon, 22 May 2000 at 8:13 PM

I'm wrong! Zip is a Wintel compression format. .sit is a Macintosh format, used by program named Stuff-It. Stuff-It will unzip Zip files, so you needn't do too much, just the Poser native format. TIA

You asked about the history and why everybodies touchy. Renderosity Forum was born of a schism (-ism) (the prior history is unknown to me, but obscure refernces to the 'other forum' will be to PFO) and begat further schisms (-isms): The first passed unnoticed, and Renderotica Forum is now the 'sister forum'. The most recent schism (why did I start) is Renderosity Online Store. And they all lived happily ever after -- so there.

I think people are touchier because in such a large community, it's hard to stand out without five-star renders and awe-inspiring contributions to freestuff/store. Most of us that have been around even for just a few months remember when everyone was a celebrity here :) Sincerely, David Caruso

NeroPhyte, I found that the Aladdin site has a .sit unzipper (guess maybe its the 'Stuff it') as a free or maybe shareware download. Works great. I use it and Winzip. I think the URL is www.Aladdin.com Diane B

picnic ( ) posted Mon, 22 May 2000 at 8:59 PM

Ah----think it is http://www.aladdinsys.com

picnic ( ) posted Mon, 22 May 2000 at 10:32 PM

G--I'm the same person LOL. Long long time ago, I should have just ditched the picnic, but I started using it many years ago when I came online--and was just as happy that no one knew my sex s. Diane B

just a word to thank Nerophyte (Ms) for your beautiful hairs. I find it incredible that people may complain about such a generous gesture
