Subject: I need ideas on what posable figures to create

Anton_Kisiel ( ) posted Tue, 23 May 2000 at 4:53 AM · edited Wed, 27 November 2024 at 9:40 PM

I've decided that with Vicki and the new guy coming out I'm going to leave them to Zygote for now. But what else is there? I'm running out of ideas. Are there any animals we don't have that we must have? So far I've done vegitable, animal, and mineral. . I need a challege. Not clothes. I'mm already on that too. But what kind of living things would you like to see. Any suggestions welcome. Anton Ps: I'm still doing hair. I like to rotate projects. :)

Inkwolf ( ) posted Tue, 23 May 2000 at 5:15 AM

Welllll, animals that don't exist at all (but are not copies of trademarked film characters) are always nice for sci-fi and fantasy pictures. And should be a major challenge to make them look "real" without being too derivitive of real animals.

LoboUK ( ) posted Tue, 23 May 2000 at 5:22 AM

Damn' I was gonna suggest posable armour for the male and female until I spotted that bit about "Not Clothes" grin Any scifi/fantasy characters would be great. Paul

Balaan ( ) posted Tue, 23 May 2000 at 6:10 AM

actually some creatures from mythology would be cool, i been looking for a griffin,or maybe a more realistic looking minatour type characters.

Anton_Kisiel ( ) posted Tue, 23 May 2000 at 6:29 AM

Good Idea. FYI The legends of griffens were beleived to have originated from the ancient discovery of a heard of fossilized Triceratops. The skull was mistaken for that of a bird. The body that of a lion. Many Mytholocial creatures like dragons are thought to have been founded on similar ancient discoveries.

JeffH ( ) posted Tue, 23 May 2000 at 6:49 AM

...or a family of lowland gorillas for that matter. A female, baby, and a large silverback male. -Jeff H.

Byte Me Ok ( ) posted Tue, 23 May 2000 at 6:53 AM

I was gonna suggest a Gorilla also... I've been waiting for ages for Dedicated Digital to put their free gorilla back up.. They had one but the link was always dead.... Anyway, a pig, and a chicken have always been on my wish list too....I dont' know why but I'd just love to have a chicken... =) ~Cindy

picnic ( ) posted Tue, 23 May 2000 at 7:14 AM

Oh, I second/third gorilla, pig and I really really want a real live barnyard sheep--long wool variety preferable (see English/New Zealand for models--Romney, Lincoln type)--okay and a chicken LOL (I'm really partial to Polish crested and they'd appeal to your 'fantasy' leanings). Another is some good bird that could be morphed and textured for a variety of songbirds. Diane B

MadRed ( ) posted Tue, 23 May 2000 at 7:36 AM

I haven't seen any camels, either bactrian or dromedary. And they can then be morphed to llamas, alpacas, etc. Or a Cape Buffalo, wildebeest, antelope, hyena, crocodile/alligator, vulture, and a half-eaten carcass! Maybe some Pleistocene mammals, a Uintatherium, various mammoths, giant sloth, early horse, etc. On the fantasy side, a good cyclops, a minotaur, Cerebrus (multi-headed dog from hell), Bluto (from Popeye), Pink Panther, Agent Smith (from Matrix) With more ideas than time or talent or tools, MadRed

Inkwolf ( ) posted Tue, 23 May 2000 at 7:52 AM

Yeah, Pleistocene mammals would be REALLY cool! There are probably also thousands of varieties of dinosaur which nobody has done yet because they aren't well-known. Ceratosaurus, skelidosauris, etc.

Merlin ( ) posted Tue, 23 May 2000 at 7:55 AM

What about a sewer rat ?

JeffH ( ) posted Tue, 23 May 2000 at 8:01 AM

Yeah, Gorilla, Croc, Aligator... http://www.selu.com/bio/gorilla/images/index.html http://www.selu.com/~bio/gorilla/info/links.html http://www.selu.com/~bio/gorilla/text/gorillalinks.html http://www.koko.org/gorilla/index.html This site is good for animal bone structures: http://www.boneclones.com/index.php3

bbascuba ( ) posted Tue, 23 May 2000 at 8:42 AM

A croc would be great! Or even just a texture for the free Viewpoint croc! Perhaps you could make that one poseable and distribute it as a PCF?

SewerRat ( ) posted Tue, 23 May 2000 at 9:51 AM

someone mention my name? looks at merlin hmm...on second thoughts, I'd probably not mess with anyone that can do magic =) yes! a rat! a rat! =) please! and more dinosaurs would be great =) thinks a wild boar would also be very cool, like they have in asterix comics, they would be good to sneak in the background for fantasy "forest" pictures along with a deer or two SewerRat

Ghostofmacbeth ( ) posted Tue, 23 May 2000 at 10:09 AM

I would like a boar. Uhm .. can think of about a gazzillion fey and mythic things that could be done.

rtamesis ( ) posted Tue, 23 May 2000 at 10:14 AM

I'd like to see different dog breeds besides the generic dog that Poser comes with.

arcady ( ) posted Tue, 23 May 2000 at 10:33 AM

Female Satyr. :) Heck; male one too while we're at it. A good 'realistic' lizardman. Some fantasy morphs. "Furries". Like catmen, wolfmen, mousepeople, horse-headed people. And other figures from the 'Furry' genre.

Truth has no value without backing by unfounded belief.

Posable machinery; engines with moving parts, robots, etc.

casamerica ( ) posted Tue, 23 May 2000 at 2:00 PM

Well, Anton, I see you are already swamped... but you asked! I would have to second a great many of the above suggestions... especially a good, "realistic" lizardman. Been trying to find or morph one of those for what seems forever. My greatest desire right now though would be for a good, poseable Orc ala JRR Tolkein. Lastly, what those of us who are veterans of the D&D experience know as Kobolds. Nasty little buggers. Anyway, that would be my 1.25 cents worth (After government taxation). BTW, haven't checked the store yet today, but still anxiously awaiting your new hair. Take care.

Anton_Kisiel ( ) posted Tue, 23 May 2000 at 2:50 PM

Ok, Let me get this straight, Gorilla, aliigator, dog(how 'bout Doberman Pincher'), song bird, Wholly Mammoth, the dinos I have to look up in my books, AD&D creatures, rat Well this feedback helps...

bbascuba ( ) posted Tue, 23 May 2000 at 2:52 PM

Are there any other textures available for that 1st dragon of yours Anton? BubbaScuba

JeffH ( ) posted Tue, 23 May 2000 at 3:14 PM

Zygote already sells a Rat ;-)

Talos ( ) posted Tue, 23 May 2000 at 4:21 PM

Everybody already said gorilla, (yay!) so I would say - lizard man would be great, along the same lines I'd like to see a Creature from the Black Lagoon. Just a man with a weird morhped head, some webbed claws, fins, and a killer bump map and texture. (I tried to make one out of Mr. Chaney once.) That's my favorite Universal Studios monster, and there is not even a Frankenstein or Dracula out there! I wish somebody could do some Ray Harryhausen characters like the Cyclops from 7th Voyage (somewhat like the requested satyr), and the monster from Venus in 20 Million Miles to earth, but that one would be too much for even Zygote. For dinosaurs, there is so far not a good sauropod, like apatosaurus (formerly brontosaurus), or brachiosaurus.

picnic ( ) posted Tue, 23 May 2000 at 5:02 PM

Yep Anton. BTW, a Doberman might be just the dog. I've wanted to do Standard Poodles and I could certainly texture a Doberman and morph it a bit for that. A Dobe would be a good 'generic' less heavy dog--has normal muzzle --oh, but could you add dials for the ears??--if you do it--up, or the natural 'down' ones G. And-----all the rest LOL Diane B

Wampyir ( ) posted Tue, 23 May 2000 at 6:39 PM

I think it would be really useful to have models of famous people (and no, not fictional characters). Some useful folks that come immediately to mind: Presidents (Abraham Lincoln, Geo. Washington, Teddy Roosevelt) Beethoven Mozart Einstein Sigmund Freud Edgar Allan Poe Vlad Dracul (real life Dracula) Sherlock Holmes (yes, I know he was fictional, but he's public domain) Also, characters based on professions, like: Firefighter Scuba diver Astronaut Judge Priest/Bishop/Pope Circus Clown Military personnel I'm sure I could think of more, but you get the idea.

SewerRat ( ) posted Tue, 23 May 2000 at 6:56 PM

there are actually a few scuba divers around I think Anthony Appleyard and Mitch both have some in funstuff (but don't quote me on that) a firefighter helmet and jacket would probably be all we need for that, and it'd allow us to put them on multiple figures and make a team, instead of a lot of clones mmmm, judge, priest, clown, they would all be cool =) If done right, some bishop robes could look awesome =) SewerRat

Ihawk ( ) posted Tue, 23 May 2000 at 7:39 PM

I asked Davo a while back if he was interested in making a D&D style beholder, but he had other projects in mind. I don't really have the software to make a decent body for one, or I'd do it myself. If you don't know what it looks like, I can email samples to you. Also, as of yet, no one has made a high-quality poseable knight in full plate armor. I've tried, but making it poseable is the really hard part. Have enough ideas yet? Wampyir, check out www.noxgeo.com/ww3d or www.home.wxs.nl for military stuff.

CEBrown ( ) posted Tue, 23 May 2000 at 7:44 PM

Beholders or Ilithid/Mind flayers would be very cool...

Ihawk ( ) posted Tue, 23 May 2000 at 7:45 PM

More about griffons. The fossils were found high up on a vertical wall near a cave of fossilized eggs in a gold ore vein. Hence, griffons were thought to have the body of a loin, head of an eagle, and must have flown to die way up there. Because of the gold, they were thought of as guardians of rare treasures. Somebody please make me a griffon.....

JeffH ( ) posted Tue, 23 May 2000 at 10:28 PM

Wampyir, I already have an Astronaut figure available for purchase: ASTRONAUT for Poser4 -Jeff H.

I'm working on a Grinx, (half Griffen half Sphinx, winged sphinx?) it will be out in a few days. Preview in the Creators Forum Did sombody say Satyr (sp?) Goat/Human or a Minataur (Human body Head of a Bull)

CharlieBrown ( ) posted Wed, 24 May 2000 at 10:50 AM

Some other strange ideas: Any of the bizarre creations of Dr. Seuss... :-) If you're into Anime or want an excuse to watch some, it would be kind of neat to have: The Catbus from "My Neighbor Totoro" (poseable legs and eyes, opening door). Boomers from "Bubblegum Crisis" and I think "AD Police" (I've seen Knight Sabres, but not the enemies...) Zoanoids (sp) from "Bio Booster Armor Guyvver" (of course just about any type of monster qualifies for this...)

CharlieBrown ( ) posted Thu, 25 May 2000 at 10:43 AM

Oh, and from a thread above and a mention here (dog breeds) how about the bizarre Chinese dogs? Sharpei (the wrinkly dog bred for food) Chow (big, teddy-bear like fluffball) Pekinese (Miniature chow with a face that looks like it was flattened with a frying pan).

Anton_Kisiel ( ) posted Thu, 25 May 2000 at 7:17 PM

Lot's of good ideas. I'm 50% done with the gorilla. It will be a silverback mountain gorilla.
