I ran across this site and thought I'd pass it along. They have a gazillion textures (I think I counted right...I got confused around 3 million so I may be off by one). There are a lot of really good ones and I even saw a few that had alpha images to go along with the main one. Susan

This is one of the best texture sites on the web. Thanks for the link Susan, it's one of those I'd lost and couldn't remember the name of. Cat

Do you just downloade the image and use it for texture? How? How can I make a texture out of an normal image? I guess I have to install it somewhere in Bryce right?

There's a procedure using the Materials Lab, but I'm not confident enough to describe it. You have to use the jpg's, and there's DaVinci's sketch of a man's reach as a placeholder..not that that makes much sense..but a more seasoned Brycean should be along soon (they're like buses..;) and explain it better. Maybe this time I'll take notes..;) I've been too busy downloading .mat's to actually make my own yet . Just found the above place, you have to do some digging (search on 'Bryce Materials') but there's about, oh..40-50 mats in there..

I wish I'd said that.. The Staircase Wit

Ok, I'm somewhat of a newbie, and this is only how I do it. I right click on the picture of desired image, this gives me options - I choose the "save as picture" option, which gives me only save as .art (which I have no clue what this is) and .bmp (which I choose). I then go into either the Davinchi guy or edit material box and add the texture that way. Hope this helps and doesn't add to any confusion. Ang

Czarinaqueen, in the texture site, click on the thumbnail to bring up the texture image in its full size then right click on the image and click save picture as and save the texture to your hard drive. I have categorized folders (woods, metals, tiles, skiesetc.) set up under a general directory called maps and I save my textures to whatever category it fits into. Then, to use the texture in Bryce, first you create your model and while its still selected (red mesh), click the Little M alongside the selected mesh model. This brings you to the Material lab. In the lab, place a pebble in the A channel dimple alongside Diffuse color. A texture source panel will appear on the right. Clicking on the image texture button (the one with the P in it) at the bottom of the texture source panel, will put you in 2D picture texture mode and clicking on the texture source editor button at the top of the texture source panel (button turns pink when you roll your curser over it) will bring you to the picture library. Once there, click in empty image panel. An explorer window appears from where you can select the texture image you previously downloaded. The selected texture will appear in the picture image panel. Below this panel, click copy. In the alpha panel, click paste. Click on the check mark at the lower right to accept the changes. Youll be brought back to the material lab. Accept the changes and your texture will be applied to your model.

SevenOfEleven ( ) posted Sun, 30 March 2003 at 11:57 AM

What type of sci fi textures? Been able to make some mech hull textures just by using squares.

Czarinaqueen ( ) posted Sun, 30 March 2003 at 12:02 PM

Check out game screenshots, can give you some good ideas. Www.gamespot.com has some good pictures there.

Also try doing a Google image search too.

Did this texture for this transport. Its a bitmap with squares and I made a greyscale map for the bumps. Messed around with the mapping mode too.
