hi folks... i have photoshop6... been using it for about a year now... im thinking about getting 7. is it worth it? opinions? buggy issues?

There are quite a few threads in this forum about exactly that issue. Click on 'search' and look for 'PS7' or something similar. Lots of opinions for and agin, but probably more 'yeas' than 'nays' in the end. For the record, I stuck with PS6. Tried out 7 and it's OK but certainly not worth the 'full upgrade' palaver or the money. I'll get 8 when it comes, which should be within a few months so it might be worth your while waiting too.

oh i didnt know 8 was around the corner.. yeah ill wait then... i was just checking out the adobe site, watching the .avi's and reading the pdf on new features...

I think I remember it being announced as third quarter of this year. Someone will probably put us both straight if I'm wrong :-)

I have 6 and 7. Never use 7...cuz they changed the whole interface and I like the old one better. I keep 5 on my computer just for the "line tool" which is easy to use. I really have not found much in 7 that would make it worthwhile. It may depend a lot on what you use it for. If you do a lot of image "design" its probably good. I use it for modifying images to look real, photo enhancement and good ol fashion painting. So 6 works great.

yeah the whole brush feature got overhauled... i see some pretty great things so far... its coming off really webb'y too... it can do this for the web, do that... the .wbmp is good though since the whole wireless this is still an emerging market.

This is question dude. 7 contains much more Brush dynamics, and it is excellent for ARITST like painting inside photoshop. I would say YES. If you like to paint with tablet. There are also features that still SUCKS and are redundant in my eye, such as retouch pen. So best will be TRY it and DECIDE yourself. Surely, for just manipulating photos etc. theres nothing special new.

8 is coming out soon? Oh crap. Why can't they get their shit together first, then issue a more complete version, rather than all these piddly add ons. Yes, I know it's all about money. As for 6 vs 7...The small changes don't seem like much at first, but you'd miss them if you had to go back to 6.

I find it basicly the same but I only have 7 and can't compare.. I use mac so anyinterface change I can deal with..I think & rocks I hope 8 is even more user friendly

User friendly and Photoshop are terms I've never heard usd in the same sentence. It's a professional application that's difficult to learn well and even after years of use you probably still won't be using it to full potential. It's by far the deepest program I've ever encountered, and I've been using it since V3 or so. I have 6. I can't afford 7. The brush options for 7 are a good selling point, and there's been a huge increase in graphics tablet interfacing. I don't use a tablet because the tablet I have is just too slow. I have my mouse speed set at the highest level, and being used to that, the slow movement of the pointer with a tablet just irritates the hell out of me and slows the whole process down. Maybe wacom tablets are different, but I can't afford that. If I could afford one of the new Wacom video tablets, I would definitely want V7. Being able to draw directly on the screen would probably make up for the slow pointer movement. And the Wacom and Photoshop brushes have been specifically designed for each other.

I should have said the complexity and the sheer amount of options that stand photoshop apart - my expectations for the other inferior graphics programs leave the creative juces absent. because it's so extrodinary I find (the stuff I know) easy to do but hard to master, leaning isn't hard if your enthusiasm drive you to find the answers you need at the moment... I'm not a profesional, I enjoy just the practical, logical, and sometimes pleasuring difficlties of this application

well i dont know about most people who use photoshop but i cut my teeth in windows paintbrush and micrographix... falling into photoshop6 the way i did was like a kid in a candy store... but i dont paint/draw anymore. its strictly a post-production process now...

PS8 was projected for fourth quarter, not third which means you won't be seeing it until October the earliest and I would't even count on that. Later in the fourth quarter is more likely.

By the time I'm able to afford PS7, it'll probably be up to V9 lol

And is it possible to install both versions under windows 2000?

AnthonyJr I installed the upgrade to 7 on my system and kept 6 just in case. I usually keep both versions on the system until i'm sure i don't need the other (earlier version) one. There is a problem that crops up in XP if more than one version of PS is installed, but i've never had problem in 2000... :) retrocity
