THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: How do I...?

I was wanting to make a sailing ship. The hull of the ship is the easy part, and I don't have a problem with the masts and the crows nest. However, I was wondering if there might be a way for me to make the sails. I was thinking that I might have to do something along the lines of using a positive object and the shaping it by using a negative one but I can't seem to creat a square (or triangulr) object that resembles a billowing sail. Then I was thinking of utilizing the same concept but using spheres instead of a cube (or triangle) but then I don't have squared corners. Any suggestions? bulldawg66

terrains? Or you could get a free copy of Amapi and draw 4 curves and have a nice sail. Maybe some nurbs deformations to tweak it.

I hadn't thought of using terraains but I have been playing with them in an attempt to come up with some other things. I understand that Amapi has a bend tool as one of its functions but I didn't know that there might be a free version available. I do have lightwave which I received for Christmas but have put it aside in order to get the basic concepts down with Bryce a little bit better. However, it appears that even were I to attempt this in Lightwave I would be limited by the software's capabilities. So Amapi it must be then. So any idea where I can go to get a free version of the thing?

There was one on the cover CD of an issue of 3DWorld. I'll see if I can find a downloadable version for you.

Thanks. I have downloaded it and installed it but no time to play with it until tonight. I am working like mad to finish up my house this weekend so I can have it on the market by Monday. I am making a big move from Houston to Sacramento in a few weeks and this will definitely help me along the way. I like to bring my laptop and work on projects when I stop for a break. But like I said. I will play with it tonight. Thanks again.
