THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: bryce to poser

how does one export bryce objects for poser. i'm sorry if this sounds insanely easy to you bryce masters...but i'm kinda new in 3d :-D. thanx for the help....palash

You can't really. The only things that will export out of Bryce are lattices and terrains. Nothing made out of primitives can be exported. Those would be the things created with the little mirrored rock icon or the mountain icon respectively. To export you either select file/export object or go into the elevation editor, e, and select export from there. But again, those are the only two types of objects that can be exported.

The no export thing is a real bummer with Bryce, it's my one major complaint about it. Catlin

It's easier to go the other way and most people would rather render in Bryce.

Given the poser render engine, it is def better to go from poser to bryce IMHO! Catlin, just as a dumb question, what proggy would you like to import to?

Bryce gives you more choices when importing Poser. If you have the Poser Pro Pack (for those of us still stuck in Version 4..;), you can export as an object, or find a program called Grouper (thanks to all those who pointed my nose in that direction..;), and then import the object into Bryce. You can even texture with Bryce Mats, which isn't that hard.
If you want to make objects out of 'primitives', go to the Modelling forum here and try Wings 3d, or Anim8tor, or any of the other programs listed there (I've only tried the first 2). Or go to the Wings 3d forum. Once you get the basics down, you can create 3d models to put in Bryce, Poser, or whatever you want. Good luck

Incarnadine I would like to export from Bryce to Poser. Catlin

Pakled- I work with version 4 of poser, no propack and I export as wavefront obj all the time without using grouper. I suspect it may simplify the process but I am not sure how necessary it is. Catlin- sometimes that would be convenient in order to make the pose more accurate in relation to the scene being constructed in bryce. This can still be done with the various non-bryce object models though. The rest of the time I have poser open on the laptop and bryce on the desktop and tweak/re-import until satisfied (they are networked)(then on to texturing). For me, poser's render engine (even what I have seen of firefly) just isn't up to bryce's. For a closeup of a figure against a studio type blank background, it works well. The problem comes when one wants to build the set in poser. I have seen maybe one or two works where the artist has apprtoached the quality of the enviroment that can be achieved in bryce. (personal opinion) To me poser would make a good plugin module for bryce. (I guess that reflect how I use it) I am not taking a shot at you over this, I seriously am curious about another viewpoint.

What I've done with Bryce and Poser so far is create a scene in Bryce and used it as a background for the Poser scene. I think I should play with it a bit more, maybe try some compositing in Photoshop with Poser, Bryce layers. Catlin

I occasionally do something similar, create multiple versioned renders of the same scene and then composite them as layers with handpainted variable transparency masks. Some wild things may be done! By the way, have you tried importing the poser figures into your bryce scene? Once you figure the texturing techniques , it's really that simple. I will be away for a day at a friends for a party. Send me an IM (that way I am guaranteed to see it when i get back) if you want any tips/pointers or just to discuss.
