Subject: Hi-Res Cube

Firebirdz ( ) posted Sun, 06 April 2003 at 7:30 PM · edited Sun, 12 January 2025 at 7:48 AM

I saw the Daz Hi-Res Cube at Daz and I quickly downloaded it. I wanted to go back and read what it can do as I only had a quick cursory glance at the images. I cannot find it anymore at Daz. Wondering if anyone has downloaded it and used it for anything.

MachineClaw ( ) posted Sun, 06 April 2003 at 7:33 PM

HaHaHa. Sorry. The Daz Hi-Res Cube was a April Fools joke. It can 'do' everything a hi-res cube can 'do'.

SamTherapy ( ) posted Sun, 06 April 2003 at 7:43 PM

"It can 'do' everything a hi-res cube can 'do'." You bet. And just wait til the morph paks come out. ;)

What you missed the toaster and steak morph ? Anton even posted some high rez textures here for it as well.

dialyn ( ) posted Sun, 06 April 2003 at 7:52 PM

The textures are still up, I think. I'm sure if you used UV Mapper that you could adjust them for the Poser primatives cube.

Firebirdz ( ) posted Sun, 06 April 2003 at 8:00 PM

No kidding! An April Fool's Joke! Then the Joke is on me! Oh well - I do get a Hi-Res Square :-)

dialyn ( ) posted Sun, 06 April 2003 at 8:02 PM

LOL--it was a great April Fool's joke on Daz's part. :) You aren't the only one who was caught by it.

sandoppe ( ) posted Sun, 06 April 2003 at 8:30 PM

I think I saw a post somewhere by someone who had turned it into 25 "practical" outfits for Victoria and Michael, but I could be wrong about that! :)

dialyn ( ) posted Sun, 06 April 2003 at 8:31 PM

I heard it was the beta for Daz Studio.

sandoppe ( ) posted Sun, 06 April 2003 at 9:16 PM

Really Dialyn??? Wow!! :)

dialyn ( ) posted Sun, 06 April 2003 at 9:16 PM

Shhhhh...I think that was classified information. ;)

Wait until you use some of the morphs and get the new clothing packs!

Wow...who needs Mike-3 when you have the amazing morphing cube.

PheonixRising ( ) posted Sun, 06 April 2003 at 10:45 PM

Actually the cube was the cat beta. :)

Farside ( ) posted Mon, 07 April 2003 at 12:52 AM

you know what's sad is that if they had put it in the Platinum club for $1.99, they would have sold hundreds of them...

hauksdottir ( ) posted Mon, 07 April 2003 at 3:35 AM

What's sad is that I couldn't get it, because it had to be "ordered" and my browser doesn't like their secure area. It is one of the niftiest jokes I've seen. :sigh: Carolly

I read the various postings here last Tuesday, so I knew it was a gag before I went to the DAZ site. Still, I wanted to see how far Dan Farr and his gang would take the joke. They went all the way as to make it downloadable. While meant as a joke, with magnets, one can do some interesting things with it. Here's an example. Sincerely, Bill

See...you and I may someday be the only proud owners of the DAZ Cube. Yes, I also had to see how far they carried the joke and downloaded it. Maybe we will be able to sell them on EBay? Diane

I downloaded it too, so that makes three of us... Haven't installed it yet, but I thought it might be fun to have it since it was such a great joke. I have even saved the receipt they sent, so I have proof of purchase if I should happen to delete it ;-) Maybe it will become a collectors item someday?

Aureeanna ( ) posted Mon, 07 April 2003 at 6:48 AM

I "have" (past tense now) preferred DAZ products so I take them at their word and downloaded the cube. I don't care to give my money to those that think it's funny to make a fool of me (their customer)...they need to consider that it might have backfired in some cases.

dialyn ( ) posted Mon, 07 April 2003 at 7:02 AM

Love the banana! You probably could make a cat out of it. They didn't lie to you. The picture was of a cube and a cube is what you got. If you needed a free cube, then you got a free cube. It wasn't as if they put up a picutre of a cat and you downloaded it to find you had a cube you had to morph into a cat. They were quite upfront about what they were doing. It was April's Fool's Day, afterall, and a much needed injection of humor in what has been a grim year. But we all have things that offend us. They have another product right up right now that offends me that other people are madly buying. Does that mean I'll stop buying from Daz? No, it means I'll tell them the ad campaign on this product offends me (and I did), and I won't buy that parrticular product. I'm not going to ban the entire site over it. That hurts me more than it does them.

Redfern ( ) posted Mon, 07 April 2003 at 10:54 AM

A banana? Hmm, yeah, I can see how one could interpret it as that. I feel a little embarrassed as I thought it looked like an abstract ear of corn complete with the shucks. Eh, oh well, "eye of the beholder..." Sincerely, Bill BTW, what product did you did offensive? Not to "rag" you, I'm honestly curious. You might want to express your concerns directly to the DAZ personnel. They seem to really listen and help their customers.

sandoppe ( ) posted Mon, 07 April 2003 at 11:24 AM

If you can figure out how to add kernels, it will look very like an ear of corn! The husks are very corn like.

For those that missed it, here's what the actual cube looks like :-)

Why shouldn't speech be free? Very little of it is worth anything.

Asciicodeplus ( ) posted Mon, 07 April 2003 at 6:41 PM

LOL... Even for a joke is a very-high-res-morphing-cube that could have been a simple 4 sides mesh... ? ? ? ? ! Ascii

rwilliams ( ) posted Mon, 07 April 2003 at 7:16 PM

I got as far as the checkout, but it wouldn't let me download it. I thought that was the joke. I have downloaded things from them before. Can I still download it somewhere seeing I tried but failed?

dialyn ( ) posted Mon, 07 April 2003 at 9:34 PM

Okay, so I buy my bananas green. I thought the next offering was going to be the Millenium sphere....I can see lots of morphing possibilities with that! By the way, Charlie_Tuna...I think that cube is upside down. ;)

Charlie_Tuna ( ) posted Mon, 07 April 2003 at 11:38 PM

Actually it's getting in some ballet practice, it's onpoint :-)

dialyn, American Pin-up Jamie? Using a flag as a boobtube is marginally tacky, but I don't like looking down the barrel of a gun. Sex and death is a hot selling combo. :p Add the cross necklace and it pushes religious buttons, too. It looks well-made, but the advertising could have been handled with more taste. Carolly

Ratteler ( ) posted Tue, 08 April 2003 at 1:27 PM

I'm offended by people who are so easily offeneded. >:0 You must stop being offended NOW.

dialyn ( ) posted Tue, 08 April 2003 at 8:54 PM

I had a nice long response but life's too short to waste it on such nonsense. That's the end of me on this thread.

I downloaded it. I wanted to see how it did making an alphabet block. Pretty good for deformation maps in Poser 5.
