Subject: Well, it hasn't been asked in a while (Poser 5 SR3)...

Anyone heard any rumours from Curious Labs as to when they might be targeting the SR3 update? I have great hopes (it springs eternal, you know) that they'll fix a couple of very specific issues that plague me like frogs and locusts... Anyone?

I'm a little confused here, I see there is a forum for SR2 and this thread refers to an SR3? Yet, when I go to the CL site they are only posting an SR1. How can one have an SR3 when they haven't even posted and SR2? Or was the SR2 hidden somewhere and I missed it? What the hell, for that matter why not wow everyone and call it an SR10! Thanks

richnovak ( ) posted Sat, 12 April 2003 at 7:35 AM

go to the download section of cl website, click on p5, and you'll see sr-2 or sr-2.1 in there. now they're going to put out an sr-3 this month... what i'm looking for is the lightwave plug-in... better work with lw [6]! :) still can't figure out where the danged woman went who was sposed to be in the box... i think she done snuck out the box fore delivery. danged mailman. maybe sr-4 will put better tape on them boxes to keep the gals inside till i dun opened them?

Wow this month? No hype? You think it will fix anything or just give more headaches.
I know, I know, they've fixed their anti-piracy protection!

i want to punch the "make character" buttom and have episode III pop out of my computer. until poser can do that, i'll just keep asking for service packs. :) honestly, i don't know what it'll fix, but i can guarantee one thing: if people let their voices be heard, and their intents not to stay with crap, all companies will give in to your pleas. all i can say is, dl sr-3 and put that thing through the ringer. if it's not stable, it's NOT GOOD ENOUGH. some people here paid 500+ dollars for p5! i paid 400 for lightwave 6 plus 3 books and 4 training videos less than 2 months ago! there's no reason WHATSOEVER not to want a quality program. there's no reason we can't have soft body dynamics. we're not using it to model cars! we're doing characters! why shouldn't they have bouncing bellies and jiggly boobs? there's no reason we can't model characters using magnets on major muscle groups! the amount of realism we could acheive is astonishing! but not with what they're putting out. no more work-arounds. no more crossing fingers for bug swatters. they depend on our shelling out cash to survive. they won't survive w/o us. and bad publicity can kill a company FAST. cl has to either swim or drown. i have a feeling that sr-3 is going to be the deciding factor for a lot of people. i also think that cl knows this, and they know they'd better put out something that won't leave us wanting. poser 6 is already in development. it better be a major step, and beta tested like MAD before it comes out :)

TCSP ( ) posted Sat, 12 April 2003 at 5:13 PM

i think stability has been the main issue... i still have problems sometimes... locks up... spontaneous reverts... the evil-wont-stay-shut-library... but there are bigger bugs... i just wish cl would openly allow the user-base more input rather than through tech support. we are using this program too and i would find it very hard to beleive that the beta-team is running this program as much as we are. and i only say that because beta testing isnt just a random willy-nilly thing. whereas we the user-base are trying to integrate functions across the board and pushing the engine over several different os versions and platforms.

500+ for P5???!!! How can you even sit?

richnovak ( ) posted Sun, 13 April 2003 at 12:33 AM

well, i paid 150 for it, but when it first came out, i believe the price was 519.00 or something, and i know that people paid that much. then the bugs started crawling out from the woodwork, and those people felt BURNED. i think curious labs came as close to comitting suicide as possible w/o dying, by releasing such a high dollar, multi-bug program. and people were MAD!!! and i think that the service releases have tried to fix the problems, but i also feel that the next time something comes along (daz|studio anyone?) curious labs will find out what happens when you offend your core user base... i can't wait for daz|studio. a little competition will certainly create a need for more advanced features and better stability. cl would be mad not to get better.
