THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: Wow, this $500 3DSMax plugin reminds me of Bryce...

Just an observation. $500 Bryce-like mountain & skyHere.

I keep seeing 3DSMax plugins (Dreamscape, Brazil), which show off their most recent abilities, a few of which just smack of what Bryce 4 & 5 have already been able to do. Now, you can't REALLY compare what these plugins can completely do to Bryce. The plugins ARE amazing, I just smile each time I see new "features" in expensive/high-end software that seems to emulate given Bryce abilities. (i.e. skies, ray tracing, shadow traits, terrain work, etc) I just know that one day, with Bryce in capable hands, it could do so much. AgentSmith

Lol, yeah. Course, you could always buy 3DSMax ($3,500) and then the Dreamscape plugin ($500), and find out, lol. I'll just stick to my $250 worth of Bryce 4 & 5. ;o) AS

I think that the alto-cumulos and cumulo-nimbus clouds are pretty darn realistic looking, been trying to get those in Bryce for landscapes...:)

Ever heard the saying that some folk have more money than sense? well I think this is an app just for them. They are lovely scenes but when you know you can get similar in Bryce what is the point of spending so much money on another plugin. Catlin

GROINGRINDER ( ) posted Sat, 12 April 2003 at 11:14 AM

Catlin I think the money spent for max is done to access the modelling and animation features that are nonexistent in Bryce.

Incarnadine ( ) posted Sat, 12 April 2003 at 9:33 PM

Got to disagree with you on that nonexistant assessment GG. Just about anything can be made in bryce, it just ain't as easy as in some other apps! I am currently working on a terrain based fantasy war axe for a naked eve in a temple with an axe picture! (I don't have V1,2 or 3 and my demon won't let go of the sword!)

Pass no temptation lightly by, for one never knows when it may pass again!

Is it possible that Corel licensed some code (they do own Bryce and could do that) to the makers of this plugin? Sure looks like Bryce algorithms at work here.

Nah, Corel didn't license anything. And, truly, you can't compare the total of what these plugins can each do to Bryce. The plugins ARE amazing in their results as a whole. I just like how bits and pieces of them remind me of Bryce. But, I think it also shows how the makers of Bryce were on the right track so long ago with so many aspects of Bryce's abilities/traits. It would like to believe that it wouldn't take a great lot to further the Bryce program into a nice thorn in the side of the big boys once again, lol. AgentSmith
