Subject: "Failure to read file" message on Plumes of Peacock...?

Patricia ( ) posted Wed, 16 April 2003 at 12:49 PM · edited Mon, 03 February 2025 at 2:46 AM

I'm using Poser4 on a Macintosh, and using Maconverter and Macinstaller to install the package. Maconverter was unable to read two files, I think the first one was something like 'handle on' and the second was 'FBZ_NewFan.cr2'. Sorry I didn't write down the first one---it's so rare for Macinstaller to have a problem with a file that I clicked on 'continue' before I realized that I had a problem! Can someone help, please?

I've asked our MAC tester laetia to see if she can assist. Clint

Can you tell me if it's the 1st or second Peacock package? That would help. ;-)) For the record, though, both are marked as being PC Only - but I'll see what I can do to help you out as soon as I'm home and near my Mac. :-) Caro

It's the 2nd package. And most all stuff is marked PC Only, but works perfectly as long as Maconverter is used. In fact, the only thing that hasn't was a single file in a large character pack that I bought about 6 months ago....that's one file out of hundreds (thousands?) I've opened and used in the past year! I really, really hope we can get it to work, since I have a WIP that's been waiting for exactly this product to be a finished work :)

lol - yeah, I know. ;-)) But trust me, I test products before they hit the MP, I've seen quite a few PC Only's that definitely don't work on my Mac. ;-)) Generally, merchants mark products as PC Only because they can't provide support for Mac users, but often times they really won't work on that platform. Since there is no guarantee it will work on your computer, all I'm saying is that Mac users should be careful when buying PC Only products. Anyway - I've tried the files over here and I get no error message when I convert them. Are you using the latest version of Maconverter (1.1.7) if not, you should dowload it - the error message you got is most probably an error on trying to convert a thumbnail... Let me know if it helped or not. Caro

I checked and I'm using 1.1.7 Maconverter and 1.0.6 Macinstaller. I tried running it through Macinstaller again and got the same two errors: Failure to write HandleOnFBZ_NewFan.cr2 Error #ID=3 Failure to write !FanHandleOn.pz2 Error#ID=3 Everything else installed just fine. How important is that .cr2 file to the use of the package? Could I do without it? Or, does she maybe have a prior version of it from the first package (which I don't have) that works on Macs?

That's an error from Macinstaller... Nothing to do with converting the file - I think it's saying that it couldn't copy the file over to it's location. Check the manual maybe they explain what that error code is. ;-) I never use macinstaller myself, I install everything manually. ;-) I tried this file and it works perfectly well, once it's installed - manually I mean. I wouldn't know how important the file is - this is something the merchant could explain, though. Caro

Thank you! I'll go ahead and install them manually, then. I just use Macinstaller because it's so fast and so easy. In fact, I may go back and see if the file in that character package that didn't want to install just needs to be filed by hand, too. Thanks for your help :)

If you've got questions like these in the future, you can always drop by the Mac forum -- you might even get an answer from MartinC himself, I've seen him lurking around over there quite a few times. ;-)) He'd be able to tell you what's going on with that software of his, that's for sure. Caro

"Failure to write HandleOnFBZ_NewFan.cr2 Error #ID=3" There is no such file named "HandleOnFBZ_NewFan.cr2" included in the package, so that's a really strange error. The other is a MAT pose file for making the handle invisible. It's not really necessary, just a convenience so you wouldn't have to go into the materials editor and do it yourself. If you would like, I can IM you with a new download link, and you can try it again with a fresh file.

Why, thank you! I haven't had time to give it a try yet, what with all the projects I needed to finish up first--like the April Challenge, which, at the rate I'm going, I'm just going to get into by the skin of my teeth ;)

Alrighty, check your IM. Good luck on your challenge! >^_^
