Subject: Opinions on Creature Creator wanted

I saw this advertised and wondered just how good it is for creating, uh, creatures. :) Is it possible to create a good, usable human figure to use in Poser? How easy is it to use? What is the quality of the finished model comapred to V2 or even V3? I guess I'm looking for a quick and relatively easy way to start making stuff, and on first glance, it seems ideal. On the other hand, I don't care to fork over $200 for something that's great for creating "Huge Bug Eyed Beastie With 83 Arms" and nothing else. I read the readme file but that's very short on information.

...although a huge bug eyed beastie with 83 arms would be different than our normal NVIATWAS :-)

There's a demo version you can download at their site. I'm pretty sure you won't want it when you've tried it. The models are low res - even compared to Posette. Also, it has basically a fairly limited range of different arms, legs, heads etc that fit together like Lego so basically your creatures will look a lot like everybody else's.

Sam,I went to their web site, and they have a demo to try. I don't know anything about C.C,but you may want to look into ZBrush also.I do have ZBrush, and find it is very easy to create custom morphs for Poser fiquers(turning them into a creature or just refineing, and reshapeing them). SWAMP

$199.00 for Lego...that don't sound good. I even use ZBrush on hair..create morphs for the hair to fall foward or backward as my fiqure bends over...easy. SWAMP (creature)

CC only creates bi-ped models (humanoid like creatures) no 4 legged wildabeasties. A friend of mine bought it and after playing with it at his work for about 15 mins I thought it was pretty much creature clipart. The models created are good starting points for a creature you can modify if you have CC for lightwave or one of the other 3d applications, but as a standalone application, it's kinda lame. Suposedly a new version was in the works that supported 4 legged cratures like dogs etc, and more options for the 'clipart' parts, but I don't know anything about when or what. Definately try the demo, maybe it's exactly what you need and there is really only one person that can tell you that :)

Thanks all for the advice. I will give the demo a try.

I bought it, and got NO support, and there are others here who also got NO support. So be on your guard. Marque

That's a consideration, too. Thanks for the warning.

i have it for 3d studio max and it flat out blows.like was said no support, but also the things you create are limited to just the things in it's library and your're not going to find extras for it.When you do actually make something for say poser,by the time you set it up to be posable you might as well have just scrtch built your own.will definitly be your biggest waste of money.

I purchased a CD LightWave Plug-in for the Mac 6.5 of Creature Creator. I sent this company 27 email messages, if I got answer it would be weeks later with some of the lame statements. Did you notice I said statements and not answers! 3 weeks after ordering off their web site they couldn't figure out what I have ordered or if I had given them my credit card No#. Even thought my card had been charged. I never received a CD. Then they charged me for a D/L version. Saying "we most just do D/Ls". <--No I didn't miss type that, those are words they sent! Then why do they have that order option on their web site? This product could never find the software directories. After weeks of asking for tech support and receiving email answers, like ...the product works differently on Max 4 (hmm isn't that an IBM only product!) or tell us how to rewrite the manual. I really didn't see that one coming. Finally, I got a HEX editor and look at the program since it could never find the directories. I found out the product was compiled using an IBM syntax C: LightWave.... In closing let me state: The Program uses a Machine ID so if you change computers or reinstall your OS on an IBM your're screwed! You would have to get another number from them I don't really know whether the product works or not. Because I was so limited with the problem it had. If you buy this program. Immediately, grease your rear end, then go to the local penitentiary, then drop the soap on PURPOSE repeatedly! Oh and don't even expect to get a kiss either!
