Subject: adding preset categories

On pg 136 of the Bryce 4 manual it talks about adding more preset categories such as trees or cars etc. But I do not see the options in the program that they talk about in the book. Can I actualy do this?

sorry to do this, but I'm adding a reply in case someone has an answer. I've been going crazy trying to figure this out. My User section is getting huge. If anyone knows how to do this PLEASE LET US KNOW!!!! Thanks. Aharon

Hi, Aharon. You can't add new categories in the Menu_Block. To cut the size of your Objects is to either 1). save each and every object as a single *.OBP file in a secure dir somewhere and then exit Bryce and delete the (in your case, Aharon) User.OBP in the preset dir. Bryce will make a new one. or 2). Select all the objects (Shift - Left_Mouse_Click) and save all the objects as a set of objects. Then delete the ones you hardly use. If you do not delete the Library-File, the file size will stay the same. What I do is to make a collective set of objects i.e. Flowers -> Roses, Tulips, Orchids etc.. I then load them all into, for instance, User. Then save them all to a dir -> MyPresetsFlowers. Whenever I am working on a project needing plants, I just load them into the User_Library for the time being. I also have them saved as single objects on CD (just in case I only need certain plants. These can then be imported (as can the sets) the usual way. There may be better ways to organise files. This is just a suggestion. HTH Siegbert

thanks. that's not a bad idea. does having all of them in your user presets slow bryce down?

Siegbert ( ) posted Tue, 30 May 2000 at 3:30 PM

Aharon, I am not sure, proberbly, though. Bryce does have to load the resources somewhwere in memory. We all know how valuable RAM is, and it's a good idea not to use it unnecessarily. Regards Siegbert

I have a tutorial posted on downsizing your bryce directories at my site http://www.chemicalstudios.com/tutorial/tut2/index.html Ken

I Want to thank you for that tut FT, I read it a while back and have used that method for organizing(downsizing) My Bryce Libraries. Hawkfyr

You sure have a wealth of information, Ken. Although, I was on the right track on Bryce_Preset matters, your tutorial is spot on. Well explained. I like it. Thanks ken. Siegbert

What I have done here was to SPAM the new .mats over the presets... Not all on 'user', example: woods on BASIC, Marbles on TERRAINS, FIRE on VOLUMES, Transparents on GLASSES et.. also, the TUTORIAL is kinda empty, stock some there too...

arabinowitz ( ) posted Thu, 01 June 2000 at 12:11 PM

Yeah. I actually started doing that last night in my haze. Just to clarify, FastTraxx, from what I gathered from your Tut, Bryce does not eat up more or less RAM based on what you have in your presets, because the stuff is actually still there just not seen. Correct? Aharon
