Subject: Fish!

Anyone know where a good variety of different fish can be downloaded? (Format doesn't matter, I can import and convert almost anything.) I am particularly interested in something in the Brazilian Arowana/arapaima gigas line (Arapaima is the world's largest freshwater fish) Anyone know a 3d site with a lot of fish to download?

Hi Inkwolf, I'm not much on fishkeeping butI suspect that the fish your looking for will be hard to find as a model, but you can make your own. try to get a good photograph of the fish you want, in PhotoShop, select the fish(and the fish only) now copy it and paste it into a new document or it's own layer. Save a copy of it as a RBG image and convert another copy to greyscale. Take the greyscale image, and apply it to a symetreical lattice in Bryce,(you may have to invert it ) now you have a fish shaped symetrical lattice. now go into the materials editor and import the color version of the fish as the texture. Harrison2 has done this with a fish as well as many other objects.check out his site to see some great modeling in Bryce.also look through Lon Chaney's gallery here at renderosity to see this technique done with his Animals. Good luck Hawkfyr

Yow, sounds good! Thanks! I'm a total 3D newbie who has only a vague idea yet what a symetrical lattice is, but next time I have time to sit down with the Bryce manual, I'll look into it.:) I'm also considering trying to model it in Strata. Fish are fairly simple shapes, shouldn't be too hard of a project, and a good one to learn on. I've also got Painter 3D, and could probably paint a texture directly from the photo using the cloning brush...I'm hoping to eventually create a German Shepherd texture for the wolf that way, using photos of my pooch.
