Subject: So am I doing this wrong?

MeInOhio ( ) posted Sat, 26 April 2003 at 8:32 AM · edited Sun, 12 January 2025 at 5:53 AM

I posted a related message a few days ago about the MAT poses in the Camera folder not working a lot of the time. This is what I found last night. I started Poser 5 and loaded my model. I added the clothes and went to the Camera folder and selected the LShoe and body in the second pull down list, then selected the MAT for that article of clothing. Then I did the other shoe, and then I did the pants. And then I rendered. And to my surprise, those clothes were textured. So I went on to do the shirt and coat, but no matter how many times I would select and apply the MAT, nothing would change. I finaly drug the MATs over to the Pose library and renamed the CM2 to PZ2 and they applied right away. Am I some how choosing the camera. I pick the model from the left pulldown list and body from the second list. I've even tried choosing a body part in the clothing (like chest in the shirt) but it doesn't work. Or maybe rendering does something so they won't work any more? But if you don't render, you can't be sure if you missed anything, or applied it wrong, etc. Kevin

If you have Poser 5, you have no need to put your poses in any other library. In fact, it's a collosal pain in the rear to put your Poses in any other library. You can use subfolders in Poser 5. That helps you better organize your stuff. I use a good file manager program to do that work. You can also create external runtime folders and link to them from Poser 5. And eventually Hogwarden will release a Poser 5 version of PBooost. You'll be in seventh heaven then.

There seems to be no valid reason for these MATs not to work. You're doing everything right. Have you tried looking at them in notepad? Post one here and let's see it. mac

Yeah, I'm kinda curious as to why you need to use the .cm2 when you run P5?
Picking from the pulldown menus sometimes doesn't select the correct part, the parameter menu still shows the prior selection. This usually only happens when I have a complicated scene, but it rarely happens.

I only put them in the Camera directory because that's where they were in the package. I'll start putting them all in the pose library, but of course I'll have to rename all the cm2s to pz2 because they come as cm2s. I can post one of them. But aren't they kind of long? Should I post the whole thing? And it's not breaking any rules to post them, is it? I'll bet it has something to do with rendering in between adding them all. I used the cyber fixer today and I used the "Camera" MATs to add all the textures. They applied without a problem, But I'll bet if I would have rendered in between..... Thanks again. Kevin

It's not a good idea for people to release packages that have the MAT Poses in the Camera library. That should be something you choose to do. But even then, there is no longer a need to do that when you have PBooost for Poser 4 (and soon for Poser 5), and Poser 5 has sub directory capabilities. They work like a champ. If you need to rename large amounts of files, get P3DO Explorer, and the Pattern Renamer plugin. You just type in the extension you want changed, and the new extension, and away you go!

Hmmm... I don't see what rendering has to do with it. A MAT either works or it doesn't. If these were supplied as part of a package, shouldn't you contact the vendor and ask if anyone else has had problems? 'It's not a good idea for people to release packages that have the MAT Poses in the Camera library' I don't understand that statement at all. Why not? I keep all my MATs in cameras and I've never had a problem. And what does PBoost have to do with it? That's a separate program that some people use, but certainly not everyone. As far as renaming files goes, I would use a program specifically made for renaming, not P3dO. I use Renamer (link above). It's free, small and very efficient, can do individual files, batches, folders, sub-folders, etc. mac

Hey, PBooost allows you to create banks so you can overcome the problem that inspires folks to resort to moving Pose files to the Camera library. P3DO Explorer is a great all-around tool. One of its "modules" is Pattern Renamer that will do the job.

I know what the tools do, peter. In fact, I wrote the italian translation for Yarp for P3dO. It's a great app, but I still use Renamer to rename things. LOL. mac

If you know what P3DO does, why do you recommend against using it? One good idea is to minimize the total number of applications in your "toolkit," especially if one program serves many purposes! Double LOL

I won't even bother answering that. If you don't know why, it's a waste of time explaining. mac
