Yesterday I posted that we would have a contest and would not start it till Wednesday of this week, but we are ready to start it now. Okay, hope I get this right the first time: Contest to start now, 4/28/03 at 18:00 CST (Renderosity Time) Prizes that will be awarded: First prize (one winner) gets a CD mailed to them for every model we have on our web site as of Sunday morning 5/4/03,(including all our freebies we ever gave away). Over $1,000.00 in prizes. Second place prize (one winner) will get a CD mailed to them with their choice of any three models available on our web site as of Sunday morning (5/4/03), (including all our freebies we ever gave away). And Third place prize (two winners) is a CD that will be mailed to them of all our free models we ever gave away. Rules are as follows: 1. Only one entry per person (screen name). 2. Entry (image, scene, whatever you want to call it) must be posted in this thread. 3. Entry can not have any postwork done to it. 4. Entry can be created with the following software: Poser any version, Vue d'Esprit any version or Bryce any version. 5. Size of image (entry), only 800 X 800 pixels (so not to bog down dial up connections). 6. Image must consist of (3) of SAM'S 3D models, it is alright to use free models or bought models. 7. The theme of this image (picture, scene or whatever) is: Your interpretation of what a Spring Morning should look like. 8. No image with nudity will be excepted. 9. No image with pornographic or pornographic suggestion will be excepted. This contest will end Sunday, 5/4/03 at 14:30 CST (Renderosity Time), after this time no more entries will be excepted. We have chosen 3 impartial judges from our staff, not including Mike or myself. You probably do not know them, but they handle alot of our paper work. They are NOT involved with Computer Generated Images or any kind of art at all, except for what they see Mike and I create. You will have to please them. You agree to these terms as soon as you submit an image. Okay, hope I got this right. Please if you have any questions, ask in this thread so we don't bog down any other forums, or you can IM me. Good luck to you all, you don't have much time, but I trust your work and am sure you will all do a great job. Just so you know we did it this way so that it would include the experienced user of these applications and the beginners. Again, good luck....Sharen and Mike :-) Entries will be voted on by 3 judges of our choice. The theme, you will get on Wednesday. There is no nudity or pornographic of any kind or suggestion of pornography allowed. Gotta keep it clean.

I am so glad to see that others are willing to have challenges that aren't pornographic. Good job. Stand firm.

Here is our website Rhiannon And yes tasquah, you can use any other model, but you must have at least 3 of ours. Good luck Sharen

TrekkieGrrrl ( ) posted Tue, 29 April 2003 at 4:12 AM

I beg your pardon, EricOfSD?! I have yet to see a PORNOGRAPHIC challenge here o_0 That said I think it's fair to say you don't want nudity in your contest images, but pornography is forbidden by the TOS and shouldn't need to be specified in more details. Unless I don't know what's pornographic.....

ernyoka1, I did not mean to offend you, just wanted to be clear with some of the new members, and I am sorry you think it is unfair, but that is how we want this contest. Not that I don't do images with nudes in them, I do, but I just didn't want it in this contest. Sharen

SAMS3D ( ) posted Tue, 29 April 2003 at 4:35 AM

It has to be a new creation, not one that has been in the gallery here or anywhere else before yesterday. Sharen

TrekkieGrrrl ( ) posted Tue, 29 April 2003 at 5:14 AM

Oh but you didn't offend me at all, Sharen :o) I was just like "WHAT?!" by the thought of any contests being pornographic L I know I'm from a country that a lot of people associate with pornography sigh but I was stunned by the thought that I - or others - might have made somethng HERE that could be considered porno. IMO there's a pretty wide gap between nudity and porno. And if I want to look at the latter, I'd go to Renderotica :o) NOT this place.

Oh and I have never said anything about it bein UNfair. On the contrary! I said "that said, I think it's fair to say you don't want nudity Somehow I feel we're talking past each other :o) Sharen: I AGREE WITH YOU! L

croowe ( ) posted Tue, 29 April 2003 at 7:49 AM

I guess if your a relative newbie or someone who has never found your page before, your kinda limited to using 3 of the 4 freebies you currently have available. Or am I missing another page where there are more freebies.

cruzan ( ) posted Tue, 29 April 2003 at 10:39 AM

OH My OH My - need to be creative... Want that Plantation House BAD (thinking if don't win hubby has to buy it for me for next bday - unfortunately bday is in August..)! Thank you - not only do you give wonderful free stuff and now a contest - WOW... The Gods have gotta be smiling on you. Off to poser land with fingers crossed. Again, TY for all you have given to us (dont always get to thank folks for their contributions, so taking time to now).

Elsina ( ) posted Tue, 29 April 2003 at 11:08 AM

Sharen, are the pages with thumbs of the freebies still up (I don't mean the zips themselves). I have some commercial items and most freebies. It is just I have so much stuff, I don't know which are yours anymore LOL and the freebie thumbs always helped me to identify yours.

cruzan ( ) posted Tue, 29 April 2003 at 11:28 AM

I had same problem - the geometries directory is always sams3d (me bad child and change library info) - at least for the freebies and purchases that I have - Hope that helps some to find the items... Good luck!

SAMS3D ( ) posted Tue, 29 April 2003 at 11:36 AM

I will post a page with as many of the thumbnails of the freebies that once were tonight, that may help you out. Sharen

Elsina ( ) posted Tue, 29 April 2003 at 11:41 AM

Ah forgot about that Cruzan! I also always put items in my own libraries. Thanks for the tip! And Sharen, you are a gem!

It's hard to tell what a typical spring morning looks like these days. Last year we had lots of snow, winds, rain and this year it's been all sunshine, and plants sprouting too early. Catlin

tasquah ( ) posted Tue, 29 April 2003 at 8:17 PM

Sharen. A few great / good reasons to do it . One is i might see something i forgot i had and got from you that i can use to make a better render. Another is to remind us of all the great stuff you have done .

two last questions. 3 of your models. Three different ones? 800x800. Is that the maximum or a must?

One day your ship comes in - but you're at the airport.

SAMS3D ( ) posted Wed, 30 April 2003 at 8:31 AM

Size 800x800 is the max, and a must have is min. 3 different models. Sharen

Sharen did you post the thumbnails of all your models? I've changed my directory too and I'm now unsure which are yours. Catlin

Down by the Old Mill Stream Being somewhat older, I remember a song by this same name from another era. It has always conjured up images for me of a spring day and new love. This image was created in Vue d'Esprit, using the Sant Maurici atomosphere and Kromekat's textues for the terrains. Characters Mike, Vicky, Dog, Cat, Mehndi's monarch butterflies and Transpond's Wildflowers were created and posed in Poser 5, exported as .obj files, and then imported into Vue. Since Vue and Poser 5 do not interface, the biggest challenge was getting the textures to work properly in Vue. Poser 5 native materials have to be avoided. The most work involves setting texture transparencies, as the information for these does not export properly. Sam's 3d models used: The old Mill, row boat, slip dock, weathervane, old pump, rocking chair (on the old mill porch). Other models used: clothing from Poser World and improved cat by Daio.

I'm itching to do some postwork on this! HAHAHA. But here is my render straight from Poser. My three SAMS3D products are the dock, canoe, and teepee. I had it at 800 x 800 but resized to 700. Hope that's not considered post work. =o)

Bryce with no postwork. I used the rowboat, wagon wheel, fence, bridge, and ladder.

Thanks Sharen and Mike and crew for a great contest and such wonderful models.
