Obviously, the background and sky aren't finished. I also wanted to add more vegetation and flowers. I'm trying to present a peaceful private grave like Americans often had in the 1800s. How is it looking so far?

Hi, it's looking wonderful so far. The grass is perfect - did you use a terrain for it? J.

jasonmit ( ) posted Wed, 30 April 2003 at 5:23 PM

The grass is a hi-res terrain with a Jonathan Allen texture. Thanks for looking.

Thanks - say, is this Allen texture a freebie? I'm highly interested in that excellent gras. ;-) This is the best grass terrain/ texture I ever saw - no kidding. J.

The texture comes in a set of 8 ground cover materials for $10.00.

Make that a set of ten.

i love the texture too, but if you wanted to make it look more like actually grass blades, a neat trick i found out was to go into the terrain editor and click the spikes button dozens and dozens of times and it will give you tiny little grass blades ...pic looks great so far

You mean like this?

yeah, just like that...i kinda like that effect, i dont know if anyone else likes the 2nd image over the 1st but i think it looks very good...nice WIP so far

It's lovely. I can't wait to see what you do with the lighting.

a possible improvement on the grass though, was just playing around with it...in the foreground of your second pic, the blades look a lil thick and unnatural. The way to get around that is to set the resolution of terrain to 1024x 768 and use the slider to cut off some the thickness of the spikes

It looks very peaceful - Sharen

Definitely looking good. Wouldn't the grave itself be a bit of a mound, even after the grass has time to grow? Lin

jasonmit ( ) posted Thu, 01 May 2003 at 1:07 PM

On the grave, I'm trying to decide between a pile of smaller stones in the middle of the larger stones or to raise the terrain.

Stones. Very comon in the south.
