Subject: poser vs Vue d'espirit

hi i have Poser 4 and just bought p5 but i hear a lot of Vue d'espirit 4 WHAT the hell is these program?? is it beter than poser ?? what can i do with it?? thanks for explaining to me

First of all some like to call it a landscape program, I don't because it is so much more. You can import scenes, animations, models that you conform in Poser 4 as a pz3 file. Example you have a house and you want a scene where a woman is coming out of the door (you open the door in Poser, place your woman at the door), save as a pz3 with all it's textures, make sure you close the Poser 4 application, then open Vue and import your scene. There is alot more you can do with Vue and Poser if you buy add ons like Mover which is for Vue and Poser. Poser 5 does not work well with Vue 4 as of yet. Vue won't work with P5, unless you have P4 installed. Vue looks for a P4 installation to see if it's allowed to import a .pz3 file. If you only have P5 installed, it won't allow you to import. Vue also doesn't support P5 strand hair. Some bumpmaps will not be imported. P5 material room textures (not the usual .jpg files) don't imports. However, that said, Vue is a much better renderer than P4 or P5. Materials in Vue are better and more versitle than P5 materials, and a big step up from P4. Lights are tremednously better, so is atmosphere. I often build my base scene in Poser, then import it into Vue for special materials, lighting, and the better rendering engine. Vue is very similar to Bryce in that respect. There's a bit of debate as to which one is the better program between the two. I prefer Vue because I don't have to go through an intermediate step to import Poser figures with normal textures. Sharen is dead right about looking at the Vue gallery. There's some beautiful stuff there.

Vue d'Esprit is "the best" IMO for landscape generating....especially considering it's very reasonable price. Once you see some of the images created I think you'll understand why. I think pdxjims and Sharen summed up some of the pluses very well. I have Bryce 4 and while I think Bryce is better for some interior renders, it can't touch Vue for outdoor stuff. Vue's atomospherics are very real....not as stark as Bryce. Much better for setting a mood....almost like an oil painting :) You actually can use Vue and Poser 5 together without Poser 4 (in fact I've never owned Poser 4), but only in one of three ways: 1) you can create and pose a character in Poser 5, export it as an .obj and then import it to Vue; 2)you can create the background in Vue and use it in Poser or 3)you can save your Poser rendered characters as .tif's and layer them onto the Vue background, but you have to do a lot of postwork for this to look right. Exporting the .obj files is the best approach. However, you cannot use the P5 materials and you have to tweak transparency settings in Vue. They don't seem to export correctly, but it's not that hard to do. You also have to ding around a lot to help Vue find the referenced textures and sometimes (rarely)and for whatever reason, an .obj just doesn't export correctly from Poser 5, and Vue can't read it. Models like the one's Sam's 3d makes....in fact most any .obj or .3ds (not MAX), can be used in Vue without any problems at all, but some of the posing capability is not possible without Poser. The biggest problem with importing the .obj files is that some of them aren't that great if you plan to do closeups....especially people. You lose a lot of the clarity and smoothness that you had in Poser, and there are limits to what you can do in Vue with eyes! :) But it certainly works fine if the charcters you're importing are "supporting actors" and not the main focus. I highly recommend Vue and will like Poser 5 even better if they ever get that "Vue plug-in" created! :)

I was just at Daz. They had Vue with mover, now it's with Vue 4.1 upgrade. Is this the same as haveing mover? Was going to finally buy this week. Now I'm not sure. I thought I would get it from Daz so I can also get the 20$ voucher. There is no mover listed at daz now so help me if you can.

Nope, having Mover doesn't affect the version number of Vue. If DAZ had it, it would be identified as a Vue/Mover bundle. Now, there is some very basic functionality from Mover that is native to Vue, but you have to buy the add on to really get the full goody bag. I know that E-on sells Vue-Mover bundled as one, and has a Vue-Mover-P4 bundle as well. You might want to check with DAZ directly, and see if maybe they are planning to carry the V/M bundle.

And just think what could happen if E-on manages to snap up Bryce when Corel lets it go. Vue being able to read both .vob and .br5 files... Maybe having an option in the terrain generator to use the native Vue growth system, or Bryce's system... Metaballs... maybe even material compatibility...
