Okay...I've completed the first gallery with the new pop-up fullscreen display. Wondered if you guys could try it and let me know if you have any problems. I think I've fixed the Netscape 7 "opens behind the main window" problem as well as a couple other ones. This is an actual gallery that will be linked to the site as soon as I'm sure this new gallery code works. It's the stuff from the Hot Import Nights autoshow (94 images total on 5 pages). I really appreciate the help on this guys. Thanks you. I'm still ticked at AOL for never responding to my Netscape 7 problem. Chuckleheads. -=>Donald

TOOK ME A FEW SECONDS TO FIGURE OUT I HAD TO CLICK THE IMAGE TO RETURN TO THE MAIN SCREEN... sorry bout the caps. i dunno, I'd prefer it if the image loaded in the main window without having a full screen resize, but not everyone is blessed with a 1600x1200 resolution... incidently, with the full screen display, you still have a scroll bar on the right... dunno if you want this or not... wouldn't it be possible to just load a new window at the size resolution needed for the pics (plus a little bit for border if need be)? if it were up to me, I'd say load it in the main window keeping the top frame handy so it'd be easy to load new images instead of closing new window popups, or at least a close window button somewhere on the page.

I like the pop-up window and how it fills my screen as I get to focus on the art itself. I did find myself wanting a tiny, inconspicuous 'next button' to view them consecutively while in the larger format. Those are excellent photos, so I knew I wanted to see them all and got a little bothered by having to go back to pick the next photo each time. That is just MHO :)

Lets try this again... Figured everybody remembered to click the photo to close from last time. My bad. Fict - I'd prefer it all loaded into the main window too (would have saved me 2 weeks of pain trying to get Netscape 7 to work right), but I got complaints from those running 1024x768 and smaller not being able to see the whole image at once. This was the best comprimise I could come up with. 1024x768 can see the full image now, 800x600 still has to scroll on some images but can see more of the images fully. Yea, it's possible to load a new window the size of the image, problem is that if the window is larger than the screen, you will never be able to see the full image even - scrollbars wouldn't work in that situation. 'chelle - Yea, I've been trying to decide if to do that or not. Would be a bit of a pain, but would make for a lot less clicking for those who want to view all images. Hmmm... Thanks guys! -=>Donald

Oh man..this is going to be more difficult than I was thinking. I don't use canned HTML pages for each image. My javascript creates all the HTML of the fullscreen image page on the fly. Hmmm...I think the previous and next image idea is definitely the way to go, but I think trying to get my current scripts to deal with it is going to be too much of a pain in the butt to implement. I may need to move to a database based gallery to do this. Oh man....more coding. Michelle - I think I need a hug now....sigh. :/ -=>Donald

Donald - The good news is that the windows pop up in front with my Netscape this time.

Donald, In Netscape 6.2 when i click on the auto images I get a very sma;; pop-up window that I can't resize. I have scrollbars but I can only view the image in sections due to not being able to resize. In IE 5 it works fine but I don't care for the full screen at all. And the Tia image for example, I still am scrolling a bit. I don't mind scrolling that much but the hiding of my taskbar doesn't thrill me. On a side note, you may want to consider redusing the image size for 2 more reasons. 1) load times, smaller images load faster, and 2) copyright infringements. The smaller the image the less chance of someone stealing your work of reproduction elsewhere on the web or printing. Just my thoughts. Magick Michael

Seems alright to me. I have the smallest monitor here and probably the slowest modem. I think things seem alright. I like the thumbnail previews at the top. The Street Photography was very different that I was thinking of. But be my thought in the mornint. =;-P I still want your orange roadster!!! Thanks for the heads up. Congrats You are now the official is't website in my Photography Favorites Folder!!! Bsteph

"because I feel a bat in your pocket....." Hehehe...she said feel and bat in the same sentence. bball.gif 'chelle - Ahhh...another example of why I like you so much. :D BIG OL' HUG Mike - What screen size are you using? Shouldn't need to scroll on anything 1024x768 or larger. As for the NS 6.2 - Cripes!!!! what the heck is it with AOL and sticking to the freaking standards for opening windows?!! They are driving me crazy. Can you please try it again and tell me if that is any different? I made a slight change in how the fullscreen is called for. As for size, the images are about as small as I want to go. I originally did the online gallery for friends who wanted to see what I was doing. I run the smallest screen of us all (the smallest I run is 1280x1024). While they probably look huge on 800x600, they have a good size at the resolutions we run. I can appreciate people uploading stuff that's ~320x200, but it looks so small and dinky on my screen that I think it takes away from the image. shrug Personal pref I guess. Never realized how hard it was to find a good middle ground in web design. Gives me a new respect for designers. Thanks again guys!! I'll only put ya'll through this one more time when I redo the site with a database driven gallery. :) -=>Donald

Donald, Sorry for the delay, I was shooting today then I watched my hockey team lose then the wife decided I had other things to do. Like anything is more important than photography! Sheesh! Anyway, I am running 1924x768. This is a screen shot of what I get running full maiximized when I click the auto images. In IE I get the full shot but I lose my taskbar because the java script calls for "full screen". (resized from 1024x768 to 800x600) My wife is a web editor and she tells me that the reason you will have issues with Netscrape as apposed to Internet Imploader is due to quality of code. What are you writing it with? Hope it helps!

Mike - I use Dreamweaver MX for my web building. Thing that bugs me is that I didn't do anything tricky or fancy. It's a straight out open window call in javascript: imgWindow = window.open('', 'imgWin', 'fullscreen=yes, scrollbars=yes'); (could have used 'fullscreen, scrollbars' or 'fullscreen=1,scrollbars=1') Netscape is a freaking nightmare. For the most part, if you don't get too cute everything works pretty well on all the IE's from 4 up. Netscape is a killer, especially 6.x and 7. It's driving me up the wall. My initial thought was to have a maximized window open up so you still had the title bar and task bar, but I realized that if I was having trouble with what should be a standard call (to fullscreen), I didn't even want to know how many different variations it would take to open a window then resize it to screen size and moving it to location 0,0. Off to do some research on NS 6.x. Thanks Mike! -=>Donald

Ok...made one more adjustment to the javascript. Went old school on Netscape to their original fullscreen command, which is 'type=fullWindow' - think they called it Netscape Canvas mode. Added that to my window.open options. That should hopefully open fullscreen in NS 4 and 6. -=>Donald

OK I checked it and got the same thing. So I checked it again on my wifes machine. NS6 works there so its something in my machine. grrrrr. Now the shallenge falls to me. Dreamweaver is my prefered editor too. The wife also like Hotmetal. MM
