THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: Should someone tell Doublecrash?

Since nobody gets an ebot for being in the top 20 hot Bryce pics and since I was just checking out FWTempest's I thought I say congrats to Doublecrash for making it in there too!

Congrats to Doublecrash too then! That's his second time isn't it?

That must be the image he wanted signs for - it looks great. OCDDoug has a lovely one there too. Lin

yes this is true... and hyperborea has a couple in there, too. I suppose I probably should've mentioned this earlier... but I was just to giddy. Congrats to DC, OD, and HB !!

Nice that Forum regulars are so well represented. :^)

Yes, this is what I like to see. I always vote for ocddougs images 'cos I love the emotions portrayed in his work and it's great to see friends doing well. So huge congratulations to Stefano, Doug, William & Madellaine and last but not least FW. Brilliant work by you all. Catlin

Whoa, thanx a lot you all! I checked today, mostly because in the comments I read many "I'll vote", and was big-bang surprised to see my "Heart In Paris" up high at #3! Up there where eagles (read: my FAVS like Rochr and Alvin and Doug) fly! :-D This said, I would like that someone of you would take the time to see my first postings here in Rosity. Last november, when I discovered the site and got the membership. Five months ago, not so much time. I more than gladly admit that a good 90% of the blatant improvement since those awkward tries is due to all the feedback, the tips, the tricks and the discoveries I made here in the Forum, following, for example (only to name a few), the lightwork of Ornlu, the mat work of AgentS, the explanations of the incredible boolean modellers who usually post here, etc etc etc etc etc (the usual two "etcs" seemed way inadequate, LOL). So, being in the Hot20 is sure a great personal satisfaction (as it was my second place in March challenge), but please don't think I'm rhetoric if I say that, without this Forum, I would probably still figthing with washed-out shadows, square-ish furniture, plain mats and poor ligthing. So, gals and guys, thanx to YOU. A lot. Stefano

ummm... ditto :D thanks, Doublecrash, for finding the words that I was having trouble coming up with. My one regret about the whole thing is that when one of my images finally makes it up there, it's one that I did very little in the actual creation process. A couple of terrains, some stock poser poses, a few of the textures, arranging and rendering.... that's it. Someone else's models, someone else's sky settings (slightly changed... but not much), someone's tree settings, someone's ground mat. So, although, I'm very proud of the image, and really appreciate those who also find it enjoyable, much of the credit needs to be passed on to others (see image credits).

Congrats, Stefano, and thanks for the kind words everyone ;-) I'm always amazed to see my stuff up there. It's such a thrill. BTW, I wish we would get ebots if one of our images gets voted in. Doug

Doublecrash ( ) posted Tue, 06 May 2003 at 4:58 AM

Is it really a problem, FWT? Lots of people (myself included) sometimes use other's models, mats and so on. If you reached hot20, it's more than likely that people liked your image because of the way you were able to use and implement those mats and models in your scene. Think the opposite: if someone will take one of your models (even fully textured), render it in a scene with wonderful lighting and thus get in the Hot20, will you claim the right to be there in his/her place? I don't think so... :) And I'll second Doug's BTW. I'd like too to get an ebot telling me. Stefano

catlin_mc ( ) posted Tue, 06 May 2003 at 6:55 AM

Don't worry Stefano if anyone gets in the Hot one someone here will shout about it, so you'll always find out. 8) Catlin

If it's any consolation, FWT, Ansel Adams didn't create any of the objects in his photos, but the way he composed his scenes, framed his shots, waited until the lighting was just right, made the result HIS art. There's not that much difference from that in what you do, is there? It's like thinking that the COMPUTER or the PROGRAMS create the art. And we all know better than that. Lots of other artists have used the same skies, objects, etc. that you did. Is their work in the top 20? It's your talent that put you there. Believe it! And congratulations to you all. Tjohn

I agree. Composition and lighting are key traits in a beautiful piece. If you excel at those, as you did in this image, you create great art.

FWTempest ( ) posted Tue, 06 May 2003 at 8:19 PM

wow.... just got back. Thanks for the pep-talk, guys, and you're absolutely right (IMHO), but I didn't mean to give the impression that I'm down on myself about it. I just meant that one day I hope to have another image up there in which I created all the elements myself. and, frankly, Doublecrash, when "One For the Road" hit the Hot 20, I was showing everyone that would look; saying, "look at this awesome picture, and, hey, those are MY glasses!!" 8D Once again, thanks everyone, and congrats to all of you guys who've made it up on one of few Hot 20 lists at this place that actually work like it's supposed to (again IMHO)
