Subject: Vue can't texture map OBJ files properly

I used UVmapper to create a simple box, following a tute on steve cox's site. I then scanned each side of my Vue4 box and pasted the textures into the template. I saved the new OBJ, and the texture template to go with it. But when I tried to map it onto the box in Vue, it wouldn't come out right, as shown in the screenshot. The preview window would show it correctly one minute, but if I refresh it, it shows it incorrectly! When I loaded it in Poser, it worked fine (as you can see). No matter how I tried to map it - automatic, faces - it always looked the same. Yes I was using the right OBJ and yes I loaded the texture map that I created for it. It just would not map. FY: I'm using the 4.12 update, and I have a 1.4Ghz processor, 732mb RAM Any ideas?

I've had this problem too with OBJ's, especially ones that were designed in conjunction with Poser. Bryce seemed to have no issue with this, nor did LW, but Vue for some reason does. I had a heck of a problem with the tombstone I made mapping correctly. Wound up loading it in Poser, saving it as a pz3 and then Vue would do the texture maps correctly. I couldn't just go directly from OBJ to Vue after UVMapper, which I take it is a program that many, many use to make these object's texture map templates.

Anyone??

OK, after playing around with the texture, I mirrored it in PSP then reapplied it, and ater a bit of messing with the mapping it finally mapped correctly. But I don't think my copy of Vue is behaving properly, it was really buggy at times when trying to change mapping. Even after I disabled that bloody OpenGL and hardware acceleration. But with a pc of my specs why should I? :( JoeBlack

Glad I'm not the only one who's noticed this, shadow :) Vue is more full of bugs than an abandoned apartment JoeBlack

I've had the same problem, and had to use the same import-via-Poser solution.

You know, I got this texture map months ago in the Poser forum. It's perfect, and had both Poser 4 and Vue completely mapped - sides, everything onto a perfect prop. I still have it. Check out the poser free stuff - it could stil be there. In the meantime I can check if there are any 'readmes' with the 2 I have that grants/forbids redistrubution. Not sure about direct importing into Vue, but they work great in Poser 4. Then saved as a .pz3. I import all my Poser props into Vue via .pz3. Works like a charm. BillyGoat

I had this problem too. I tried importing a remapped broom into Vue. It didn't work. However, P4 imported it without a glitch. I bet it's a UV Mapper to Vue problem.

Hmmm.....yea I just imported the box with texture as pz3, and it too mapped fine. Weird. I guess it has an issue with the way uvmapper creates OBJ files. Thanx ppl JoeBlack

I wouldn't assume it's a problem with UVMapper. OBJ import works fine with Poser, Cinema 4D and Bryce. I think Vue has a bug in the OBJ import filter. The pz3 import filter seems to be OK.

After trying this again, I remembered that Vue needs the Y-axis of the picture scale for the texture map set to -1. I had thought this issue had been fixed, so I didn't even think about it earlier. Charles
