Well, I said I'd do it and I meant I'd do it. I am pretty far along on a Ferret which can double as a Weasel, Sloat, Ermine, Mink, and maybe even a Mongoose with the right morphs and textures. Here's a pic of the JP construction (I'm modelling and building the CR2 at the same time, which may seem odd but sometimes it helps) Essentially, think of this as a 3D 'sketch'

Here's part of the actual modelling. There's a bit more done than this, but I need to get a camera because Spice won't keep his mouth open long enough for me to get a really good look at his teef!

how cute - looking forward to seeing how this comes out!

Looks cute already

I've been spending some time working on a crappy car for the Poser peeps. They have plenty of fancy European sportscars and classic musclecars, so I'm making a rustheap lowrider Chevy.

file_57055.jpg

I'm also spending some time on an Asian weapons pack including several posables

And I'm teaching my adopted step brother-in-law (don't ask) how to model and workiing with him to get his first thing put together.

Lest anytone think I'm totally absent lately, I'm just way busy!

Axe_Gaijin ( ) posted Mon, 05 May 2003 at 10:16 AM

"They have plenty of fancy European sportscars and classic musclecars, so I'm making a rustheap lowrider Chevy." You're right there... but there's also a lack of (quality) Japanese cars out there, economy, sedans, or sportscars. Only Thing I found so far where 3ds format files of a Subaru Impreza (when importing the wheels where not at their right place) a Honda Civic Shutle (low poly mesh) and an Honda Accord (haven't even tried to import it yet) Ancow, all that stuff you're doing look mighty fine :) Axe.

garicstarr ( ) posted Mon, 05 May 2003 at 10:16 AM

I've been looking for a posable weasel that i can convert into a humanoid character. Will it have posable hands and facial expressions??

Berserga ( ) posted Mon, 05 May 2003 at 10:19 AM

I'm definately all for the everyday cars.

Great stuff Dodger! Let me know if you need any photos for the ferret. I've got 4 of the lil devils and with enough treats for blackmail, Im pretty sure I can get them to hold still long enough to take pictures. ( would work for textures as well.)

garicstarr ( ) posted Mon, 05 May 2003 at 11:06 AM

How about an Otter morph? :)

pdxjims ( ) posted Mon, 05 May 2003 at 11:07 AM

Dodger! Coffee! When? I've finally got a breathing space. Too cool stuff! I want the ferrit! Jim

Niles ( ) posted Mon, 05 May 2003 at 11:13 AM

Great Work, I want the weasel. Please put it #1 on your list...Please ;)

chohole ( ) posted Mon, 05 May 2003 at 12:53 PM

Like Stacey 73 said...if you want photo's of ferrets, them I have quite a few, photo's that is. Ferretless at the moment, but I am sure that situation won't last long. Reaaly looking forward to the ferret. The morph from the 9 lives cat just isn't right.

Hi Dodger, as you might remember I'm interested in the addons for JICC, any work-in-progress renders of these yet?

_dodger ( ) posted Mon, 05 May 2003 at 3:52 PM

William: not yet -- they are in sketch form at the moment and my scanner is hosed. F'in Microtek. Everyone with fuzzits: Yes, if you can get me pics of the insides of their mouths and quality texture-type pics, and I use your stuff, I'll give you a free weaseloid. BTW, it will have facial expressions and posable claws, but the expressions will be ferret expressions. I'll look into otter -- they are pretty close in torso form, especially when you're bathing a ferret. The tail is a lot different though.

_dodger ( ) posted Mon, 05 May 2003 at 4:05 PM

Onnetz: I have one that wont work in poser at all.. nobody can seem to figure out why..lol Betcha I can make it work.

_dodger ( ) posted Mon, 05 May 2003 at 4:09 PM

Axe Gaijin: there's also a lack of (quality) Japanese cars out there, economy, sedans, or sportscars Not to mention a further lack of vans, pickup trucks, road trains, bush trucks, buses, rubbish trucks, box trucks, road sweepers, bimbo boxes (minivans), SUVs, jeeps, crotch rocket motorcycles (everything seems to be a hog), landspeeders and Lincoln Towncars. Or anything with a right-hand driver. They are all on my list B^)

If you need any help making your Millennium Mustelid fully Mimic-ready, let me know. Version 2.0 will be available soon, y'know.

Fashionably_Late ( ) posted Mon, 05 May 2003 at 6:13 PM

Looks great dodger, I've always wondered why no one had come out with a weasel/ferret before. (Though I guess its the same reason there's no realistic cat yet... they do tend to move like their spines are made of rubber.) I like the idea of the otter morph... would just require shortening the muzzle and widening the head some, and making the body a bit stockier. I've got some photos from a recent aquarium visit if they'd be of any use.

And one more tiny request... If you add a pair of sai to that weapons package, I'll be your best friend. :D Maybe not the most convincing argument I know, but those look great and I can always use more high quality Poser weapons that aren't the standard set of European-style swords. Keep it up, I'll send coffee!

...Whatever it is, I want it! That is an amazing amount of work flowing from your mouse fingers. Please, the ferret/weasel-oid first. From da Vinvi's "Lady with the Ermine" to "Ferret Bueller's Day Off" (a local production), a good flexible model is high on the wish list of many people. (I have held a ferret and "use limits" doesn't apply to their backbone.) Also, please make this as realistic as possible... we have enough cartoon critters already (I'm eyeing those front legs with a bit of worry). Carolly

"backbone? what backbone?" lol! The fuzzy pretty please I've been wanting one of these for ages!:) If I can get our Pepsi to stay still for more than a second I'll have a go for you, do you need any extra fur photos? As well as our little girl here I can take some of my sisters black eyed white, Bud. Alla

I dont mean to badger you but you otter do the weasel. It looking real good. all the models are looking are good but I think th eweasel holds lots of promise. (Oh and teh first think I tghought of the guy with the segmented staff was that it make a great viagra ad:)

_dodger ( ) posted Tue, 06 May 2003 at 1:39 AM

L All concerned about the spine and/or paws, remember, the top pic is a 3D sketch and I didn't finish in paws; The body parts I have laid out thus far are (sub x with l or r): head upNeck neck chest xCollar xShldr xForeArm xfPaw (Front Paw) xclaw1,2,3 (front claws) thorax abdomen lumbar pelvis (hip, but I'm calling it pelvis because it's not a hip on a ferret and that always bugged me on animals) xHaunch (um, basically buttocks, but ferrets don't have those) xShank (upper leg, i.e. thigh) xFoot (lower leg, which is actually the foot) xrPaw (rear paw) xtoe1,2,3 (rear toes) tail1 tail2 tail3 tailTip I'm not making the jaw posable because it wouldn't close right; I'm making morphs instead. The abdomen body part has a curve dial. That solves the bendy-spine question quite well.

_dodger ( ) posted Tue, 06 May 2003 at 1:47 AM

Oh, the weapons set has a lot more than that already, just no test render for about half of it, at least. There's also a few different posable hook-and-rope type dealybobbers, the chain you saw, a sai, a jutte, a few different swords including a ninja-to sword with a not-to-be-documented surprise, and so on. Let me open the dir for the list... Posable 9-Ring Tai Chi sword (rings and sash) Barong Bolo Posable Butterfly Knife Caltrop Chinese Butterfly Sword Chinese Hand Axe Double Katana Emperor Kangtse Katana Fang Filipino Sword Posable Gunsen (war fan) Jutte Kama Katana Posable Easypose Kau-sin-ke Posable Easypose Kawanaga Kiseru (iron pipe) Kumade Posable Easypose Kusari-gama (per-chain-link-posable) Posable Easypose Kyoketsu-Shogi Lajatang Li Kwei Axe Mancatcher Naginata Ninja-to Posable Nunchaku Parang Pira Sai Sang Kuaw Sode Garami Posable Tai Chi Broadsword (sash) Tetsubo As a note, all the posable props in here are also smart props. And they do not crash Poser when you delete the figure holding them. (That's a common problem with posable smart props -- it happens when you add a smartparent directive to a figure, it's bad news -- these don't have that problem)

Okeydoke, here's all the weapons done so far, though a few more are in the works. Nothing is matted yet at all. No textures are used in thie image unless you count reflection maps, which were slapped in en masse with a perlscript. These are just the weapons, period. And a few are still yet to come. And before anyone asks, yes, some of these weapons were used in my propr Free Stuff Asian Pole Arms pack -- sort of. These are new geometries based on the old ones (in some cases, even vertices are identical, but facets are not, for instance). Smootharound problems are fixed, JPs are better, everything is smart, even the posables. Etc. etc. I have labelled the weapons so you can see what's what.

Little_Dragon ( ) posted Tue, 06 May 2003 at 4:53 AM

A comprehensive arsenal, _dodger. Reminds me of the weapon lists in the Player's Handbook and supplements. I could recommend a few other items to round out the collection ... blowgun, throwing stars and knives, tanto, bokkan, manriki-gusari.

Ferret, please, yes, finish the ferret! Chohole is right, the 9-lives morphs (while great) just aren't up to it. Now if I can just persuade my friends' furries to stay still long enough to catch them on camera... One of them's called 'Squirmer' for a very good reason!

kamilche ( ) posted Mon, 02 June 2003 at 3:09 AM

Oh, he is so cute, even in this unfinished state! The body shape looks really nice. Finish him, package him up with some walking animation and a texture, and I'd buy him. :-)

Vazdru ( ) posted Mon, 02 June 2003 at 3:38 PM

oh, I want this weasel.LOL Very very good beginnings on the ferret indeed. Great curvature, and the face sculpy is looking promising. I will buy this once it's out... you may want to include a bonus can of raisins!!LOL -Batty-
