Hi, Does anybody know of any tutorials or can tell me how to create a good steel or chrome effect in Bryce 5? i.e. tips on the correct sky, any tips that will help? thanks alot.

for chrome, try tinkering with the diffuse colour of the one in Simple and Fast. what sort of steel surface are you looking for?

here's a few i did a long while back. The steel/chrome is quite versatile.

last post i promise... here is a galvanized metal I made a few weeks ago. It is fresnel as you can see from the pic, so it looks good under most lighting circumstances.

A TON of planked wood at the link. Of the type I used above, they are all seamless and 1024x512. Others are 512x512. The site is kinda slow(it's in France I believe), but it's worth the wait. There also MANY other textures there also, may other types of planked wood, also. For the type of wood I used above you are looking for this gallery; "Parquet Echelle/Parquet Ladder". "Ladder" being the key word there. There are many stain types and colors. Enjoy downloading. AgentSmith

while you are on the subject: does anyone know a way to make a decent brushed steel material. Like the kind one might see on the hilt of a sword. I've tried picture textures, procedurals just about everything I can think of. thanks

madmax_br5 ( ) posted Wed, 07 May 2003 at 1:06 AM

you have to use blurry reflections with a specular map that looks like scratches.

Incarnadine ( ) posted Wed, 07 May 2003 at 6:17 AM

cool site AS, one word to all though. You must enable pop-ups for it to work.

Yeah, I don't care for their "interface" Thanks for the heads up, didn't know that myself. AS

I will check these out, anyway much as I hate popups - "there's no texture like home! there's no texture like home! there's no texture like home!" durn - forgot my ruby biker boots - just have to use the link I guess. Oh well. Thanks Agent Smith and madmax, - TJ

one of the things I like about Mozilla, you can control your pop-ups by specific site (as a temporary exemption) (grin)
