Subject: Need help with Zygote fig (octopus)

bbascuba ( ) posted Sat, 03 June 2000 at 1:13 PM · edited Wed, 31 July 2024 at 6:34 AM

I recently purchased the Zygote octopus fig and cannot for the life of me load the bump map. Anyone else have this problem? Zygote has contacted me but I haven't been able to reach them at the office (bad timing and my monitor blew out on Tuesday). Thanks guys- BubbaScuba

I've not had a problem getting the bump map to load. Are you using the .cr2 that came with the figure (the one that had the tex/bump already applied)? -Rob

I am. I keep getting a file not found error. I have tried to apply the bump manually (I believe it would be applied to the skin) and Poser doesn't even take it into memory. I have 256 mb RAM on 500mhz PIII operating on Win 98. I'll try installing it again and see. BubbaScuba

No go on the reinstall. All the other .BUMs that I apply come up in thye pull down menu, but not this one. Ahhh! BubbaScuba

Oh, I think I had to rename the file name of the bum map to what the error said it was looking for... -Rob

I've tried everything! I've even changed the OctopusM.TIF to a bump map and aplied it. It applied. I think I've got a bum .BUM file. BubbaScuba

You should have these files in the textures folder: "OctopusM.tif,OctopusBump.tif & OctopusBump2.tif". when you try and load OctopusBump.tif as a bump map in render properties a .bum file with the same name will be created. Open the cr2 in a text editor like "EditPad", every time you see "Octopus.bump" (near bottom) replace it with "OctopusBump.bum". each time you see "OctopusM.pct" replace it with "OctopusM.tif". It looks like the files were left compatable with Mac. -Rob

Mine only came with an OctopusM.TIF and an Octopus.BUM. I've checked over the .CR2 and it seems to coincide with the texture files. I dunno... I'm going to call Eric Allen tomorrow as I am off from work. Hopefully he has the answer. Thanks for all your time and patience. BubbaScuba

Lance, I would do that (call Eric). I bought the figure the first night it was available, maybe they changed what files were included... Wish I could have solved your problem. -Rob

bbascuba.... try opening the bum file that won't load in a graphics editor, (PSP, PS, et al) I just had exactly the same thing happen to me & it turned out that the bum map I was trying to load had the wrong file extension! Instead of converting the format I had inadvertently, (at about 3am :-) saved it with the extension I wanted & then spent the next hour swearing at my computer in general & poser directly because it couldn't find the file.

Ya know cooler. I tried that earlier on today and it didn't work... until now! I tried renaming the .BUM file to .PCT and !voila! there it was. I dunno why they shipped it to me in .PCT, I thought they sent .TIF files for PC. I didn't notice much difference from the bump map however. Thanks for making me try that one more time. BubbaScuba
