Subject: SR3 Walk Manager

Trying to apply an animation from the Walk Designer in Poser 5 SR3 to a figure. After clicking "Apply" and closing the Walk Designer window, the figure disappears (I can select the figure from the popup menu, and the circle selection appears, but the figure itself does not draw). Happens on both Poser 5 and Poser 4 figures.

Anyone else seeing this?

I was seeing something like this. No explanation. However, I was able to fix it for a session by loading a non-P5 figure AND the figure's cr2. After that, you can load P5 figures safely. ???? What happens to the figure is that the WD assigns the feet and sometimes the hips to x,y,zTrans "200000", which is, in technical jargon, "way to Hell and gone." Oddly enough, it only effects anchor parts. If you turn IK off the feet, then only the hips go south, east, and west (taking the rest with them, though). If you load a P4 figure and DON'T load the figure type, you will still have the problem, because it seems to be related to the default P5 cr2 figure type, which loads when you fire up the WD, regardless of which figure you are bringing in. If loading a P4 figure and figure type doesn't fix it, then you have a pernicious variant. Good luck, M

I also so something like this on my attempt last night but didn't have time to isolate the problem. I was able to make it work by changing things suchas turning 1k off and not use start from pose.

At least you got it to start, I hit walk designer and it locks poser up tighter than a nun's knickers. Pitiful. Marque

I should note it took two minutes the first load of the walk designer dialog box. It began to be quick (even after reboot) once that first load up.

Hi dhulse, this problem can occur when the new Walk Designer improvements conflict with old Walk Designer poses. Can you let me know the date of the Walk Designer poses in Runtime/libraries/Pose/WalkDesigner? They must be updated, if this worked, then they're dated from March 24th. If they have been updated, then let's try another thing: please search all your runtimes for the WalkDesigner folder. If you happen to find one or more asides from the updated one mentioned above, please move them out of Poser's reach (or delete them, if you can do that). Also make sure to delete the file 'Don for Walk Designer.pwd' in Runtime/libraries/Pose/WalkDesigner. It caches walk designer data for speeding up its start (btw, this is the reason that starting the Walk Designer for the first time takes so long, because that file has to be generated first). Now lauch the Walk Designer again, and see if it works. If it works, and a new .pwd has been generated successfully, you should be able to copy the removed folders back to their location, if you need them.

OK, I had the same sort of problem. My walk desgner contents (pz2) are dated 3/24. In the poser4 pro directory there are old ones. The ones in the P5 directory for poser p3 are also old.

My usual routine with Walk Designer Hell is to load the figure, pose it, create the walk path, launch Walk Designer and load the figure's cr2, then apply the walk with the transition option enabled.

At least, that's my usual routine in Pro Pack. Up until now, I hadn't been able to get a functional walk out of P5 with any of my figures, no matter what approach I took. But after installing SR3, it worked perfectly on the first try. In fact, the motion appears less jerky than in Pro Pack. Whatever they did, I hope they don't accidentally undo it in future Service Releases.

I had my figure dissapearing on mine to and none of the sugestions seem to work. So I did a complete clean reinstall with Sr-3 and figure updater and that fixed it and it seems to run faster too!!

I tried deleting the 'Don for Walk Designer.pwd' file which was generated and got the same problem. I then deleted this file and all of the above directories except for the main P5 Walk Designer folder. This worked. I was able to restore the other Walk Designer folders and the Walk Designer continued to work correctly.

This is getting hard for me to understand. I've tried every solution here, to no avail. Yes, the dates are right. I've also noticed there seems to be no way to use extra "blends" that I've aquired and used very sucessfully before, such as V2 Runway. That means, even if I get it to work, I've taken a large step backwards. The biggest confusion is that it seems there was no alpha done on this release. Either that or no one thought to come up with a solution before releasing it. I must be odd, but if my car was recalled, but I couldn't use the windows after it was "fixed," I don't think I'd call that proper attention to detail.

sakelsey, this was extensively tested before release. The reason why problems occur with old files is that the internal parametrization was improved (it uses more information now). This was required for smooth walking with new content. Under certain circumstances, there can be conflicts, but we can't possibly guess all the different runtime structures out there to take them into account. For most people, the Walk Designer works out of the box, for those who are experiencing conflicts, we're trying to provide help (i.e. when you have custom made windows in your car, we can't necessarily deal with that in advance). OK, now for a quick fix on custom walk designer content: 1. open up the pz2 in a text editor. 2. search for the line 'thighLength' in the pz2 of your pose (should be right at the beginning, around line 10). 3. Add the missing data in new lines after the line located above: For Victoria 2: feetDistance 0.042183 hipHeight 0.393000 For Vicki P4: feetDistance 0.043000 hipHeight 0.396901 Do not add anything besides the feetDistance and hipHeight parms, here's an example: { version { number 5 } clearFigureKeys 30 thighLength 0.175231 feetDistance 0.0652754 hipHeight 0.408788 ... 4. Once you've done that, do the procedure described in post #6 again and let me know if it works this time.

Hey uli_k, Are there other tweeks that need to be added for Mike 1 & 2 or are they okay. Also is there a document that we could refer to as a reference that might help us get our custom blends to work. I think Poser 5 has a lot of power under the hood if we just new how it all worked. I think the fact that Poser's files are readable and easyily edited out side of Poser is a real strength. I just wish we had some documentation on what all the commads in the file do. A technical refrence manual or something. Thanks, Thorgrim

Sorry, Thorgrim, there is no documentation we could give out at this time. Michael's values are the following: feetDistance 0.054000 hipHeight 0.399000 We'll compile an FAQ item with more values (including Michael 2) soon.
