There's an animation at this link. It's DivX encoded and the duration is 4 minutes. The filesize is 35,8MB. There's a character animation in it, so everyone who thinks that's impossible to do in bryce should take a look at it. Some of this stuff still dates from 3 years back when I still used B3 and a 300MHz AMD K6II with 32MB of RAM. The total rendertime of the whole animation would probably be about 2 months, but don't fear, it's been nicely spread over 3 years. Thanx to Mindvision for hosting the file.

Great effects, but the storyline was a little hard to follow :) Some very interesting work...

Rayraz ( ) posted Sun, 11 May 2003 at 3:09 PM

Not really much of a storyline in it. The Helios-part has a story in it, but I never got a narrator. The story tells about 2 planets. One planet had been industrialized and the other was left to nature. That way people could enjoy both technologie and nature. But after a while the industrial planet got so poluted that the people could not live there. Unforunately they also brought the toxics to the nature planet. In a last effort to survive the last people build a huge spaceship and decided to find a new home. Though before leaving, they destroyed their sun, and with that the now deadly planets. That way no-one could ever go into damnation on their old planets. (Is that a correct formulation?) I tried MPG-compression, but it either got a way to large filesize or a corupted file or an error-message when I tried to compress it.

I will see what I can still do about an MPG-version though.

Played on windows media player fine.... was funny and cool...I like messinf with bryces animations too...Great Job man...downloaded on cable modem in about 2 minutes...no problems...did the music take up most of the file size? Great Job...

jasonmit ( ) posted Mon, 12 May 2003 at 1:34 AM

Hey, pretty cool. I'm glad Robnobs mentioned Windows Media Player as neither my divx player or Quicktime player liked the file. Loved the dancing robot.

Rayraz ( ) posted Mon, 12 May 2003 at 5:21 AM

The music was 56Kbit/MP3 compressed, so that shouldn't have been too much data. I think the fact that the animation has previously been compressed also adds to the filesize. I think the compression-artefacts where harder to compress. I don't have the original uncompressed data of everything, and my video-editor is so unstable that adding just the 8 files used for this animation took 6 hours, 57 error-messages (wich all resulted in having to restart the program), 23 reboots and 7 lost files. Next time I make an animation though, I'll probably be more carefull with the compression.
