Photography F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 15 2:14 am)
Answers to questions like this always depend mostly on what you are trying to accomplish with the photo. I'd agree with zhounder here; having the major foreground subjects out of focus is somewhat distracting, and there really is no way to fix focus in photoshop. I'd reshoot, maybe using a tripod to allow a very small lens opening. Your placemet of the subjects is OK, and the clock and wilted flower seem to be starting to tell some sort of story. Depending on what you are really trying to say, maybe having the candle burned out or melting would better emphasize your point. I'd also move the candle slightly forward, and overlap the vase; give a greater feeling of three dimensionality.
Hi FearaJinx.....and welcome to the forum. :~) Looks like you're off to a good start. The composition is good. You've been given good advice already. Not much new to add.

Perhaps U can shot also an under-exposed shot... with the only light of the candle... of course with a tripod.. U'll get great shadows and I think in this way you'll have a great mood shot: the time is passing, the rose withers and the candle go out.. Try different exposure times :) (only my opinion)
Kind of late here, but ratto beat me to my point. Lower the light, and make the candle a major light source instead of whatever was used. - looks like a flash - forget the flash. The flash is great at drunken parties, but not on a shot like this. Open the aperture or lengthen the shutter time. I think I'm gonna mess around with this concept some. Thanks for the idea!!
