Subject: Errors During Poser 5 SR3 Install

danny7 ( ) posted Mon, 12 May 2003 at 9:13 PM ยท edited Fri, 29 November 2024 at 11:40 PM

When I try to install the Poser 5 SR3 Update, I get the error message "CRC checking failed. 'Poser.exe' was not copied correctly." Anybody know what to do about this?

Curious Labs Online Tech Support form keeps telling me I must fill out ALL the fields marked with a red '*' even though I filled everything out correctly. AAAAAARGH!!!!

CRC checking is an error-checking mechanism, similar to a checksum, that enables an application to determine whether the information in a file has been modified. After the Windows Installer finishes copying a file, it gets a CRC value from both the source and destination files. The installer checks the original CRC stamped into the file and compares this to the CRC calculated from the copy. The CRC check fails if the original CRC value is non-null and is different from the CRC calculated on the copy. If the original CRC is null, no check occurs. sounds like maybe you got either a corrupted file (burp in the line/bad download manager) and/or some bad sectors on your hard drive which has in turn corrupted the instalation process. try redownloading it to a different drive. failing that, clear your recylce bin do a surface scan then defrag. then redownload and reinstall. hope that helps. good luck.

Your poser.exe has been modified somehow...virus or some program modified it..

CRC (Cyclic Redundancy Check) is carried out by the patch file (InstallSheild?) on the data in the download. When it fails it indicates that the download has been corrupted or is incomplete. You'll need to download the file again, and it's recommended that you use a download manager such as GetRight which seems to do a better job of ensuring that the transfer runs somoothly. Bill

might sound silly, but have you installed previous updates?

Believe if you are using dialup - this happens alot so you should look at a download manager. Poserworld and other threads here recommend GetRight. Good Luck!
