Im about to cry, sob is more like it. I have been working on an image for some time now and I saved it last night with no problems or errors. But when I tried to open it today NOTHING is there. The file opens file and gives no errors even asked where to find one of the texture files but thats it. What happen?!? Has anyone else had an issue like this with Poser? I am using version 4 with the Pro Pack installed. Is there anything I can do to get my work back???? Please help!

I know this is going to sound weird, but have you tried importing it instead of opening it? Sometimes that works (sometimes it doesn't).

ssgurl ( ) posted Mon, 12 May 2003 at 5:03 PM

=( i just tried to import the file, thank you for the suggestion but it didn't work. when i open the original file is says No Figure at the bottom where you select your models. And it says the same when I import the file.

Bummer. That worked for me once upon a time....I was keeping my fingers crossed for you. :(

If you can remember which figures were in it, you could try going to the Geometries folders and deleting the .rsrs. They may have become corrupted. Deleting them cures that, as poser just rebuilds them. mac

i guess im most confused by how Everything in the scene has disappreared on me. The props, vickie, her clothes, the lights, everything thing. It even resizes my work space window into a tiny (450x450) square in the center of the screen. i tried the rsr deletion but it didn't work either =/ thank you tho, mac.

Hmmm.... it's weird. If you feel like opening the pz3 in notepad, you could check it, but I have a feeling it'll be ok. I don't know if this has anything to do with this particular problem, but one thing I've found to be essential is to make the poser.RSR read-only. You'll find it in the main Metacreations/Curious Labs folder along with the poser.exe. Right-click the .RSR and check in properties that it's read-only, not archive. I cut out 1000s of poser crashes after I did that. If you're desperate, you could send me the pz3 file and I'll check it in cr2Edit for you. mac

to do list: change poser.rsr to read-only - CHECK open pz3 file in notepad - CHECK (tho i have no idea what i am looking for) What am I trying to verify in the PZ3 file? I have done some small bits of coding for Poser such as mat poses, model creation, etc, but there was just way too much info in this file and I didn't wanna make it an ever bigger mess but touching any of it. Are you sure its no trouble to look the file over for me mac?

maclean ( ) posted Tue, 20 May 2003 at 4:55 PM

ssgurl, Try looking through the pz3 file. Search for 'figureResFile'. There will be 2 of these entries for each figure in the scene. What you can do is read the file path, which will be 'Runtime:Geometries:somefolder:some.obj', then look in the Geometries folders and make sure that these obj files exist and are in the correct folder. If not, then that's the problem. Have a quick look at that. If nothing's wrong, then you could send me the pz3. It depends on the size though. Is it huge after it's zipped? Up to 1 meg is OK. Actually, it would help to know what kind of figures are in it. If they're things like vicki, I could open it (assuming it opens). But I don't have Mike, and if you have some strange figures in it, all I can do is look at the text and see if I can spot anything. Can but try.... mac

all of the paths lead to the correct items. I have used Vickie 2 with and edited Daz Grecian dress, Grecian Braid hair, a Butterfly from the CMS set and RuntimeDNAs backdrop renderaid. Everything is listed except for the renderaid. All of the other items where linked correctly. I zipped the file and it comes up to 4 meg (without the textures included) =/ If I were to upload it to my server for you to download would that help?

maclean ( ) posted Wed, 21 May 2003 at 7:09 PM

Argh! 4 megs. Well, even me d/ling it wouldn't help because I don't have the obj files for these items (other than vicki), so I couldn't open it anyway, just look at the text. Hmmm.... if all the paths are correct, I'm not sure what it could be. You said 'It even resizes my work space window into a tiny (450x450) square in the center of the screen' Search in notepad for 'doc'. You should find these lines near the very end ------------------------- doc { dimensions 600 600 screenPlace 169 76 displayMode TEXTURESHADED useLimits 0 headGuides 0 horizon 0 etc, etc,etc -------------------------------- Now, that's from one of my pz3s, with a doc window of 600 x 600, near the center of the screen. If yours says '450 450', you can resize it by changing the figures. Have you tried opening these figures separately? Do they work from the library? If they do, then it's definitely the pz3. Let me know, then I'll try to d/l it and have a look. mac

pardon a code newbie question but since i can open the pz3 in notepad, can i then save it as a txt file that you can look at in text form? i mean since you would only be able to look at the text anyways, and this would make it a MUCH smaller file. then if you have to change anything i can just paste it into the pz3 file on my 'puter. right? =/ maybe? lol

maclean ( ) posted Thu, 22 May 2003 at 7:32 PM

Yes, you can save it with the extension .txt, but it won't make a difference. A .pz3 is just a text file in poser form, so the compression won't be different no matter what format it's in. Maybe I'm misunderstanding you. The .pz3 alone was 4 megs when zipped? It sounds a bit odd. Normally text-based files will zip down to about 1/20th of their size. Or did that include obj files as well? I just tried zipping a pz3 file of 1.12megs and it came out at 91kb. mac

ssgurl ( ) posted Thu, 22 May 2003 at 7:57 PM

i just zipped the pz3 file. i used winzip, i just did the right click-it zipping and when it was done the file was 4 meg.

maclean ( ) posted Fri, 23 May 2003 at 3:30 PM

Hmmm it must be huge. I'd hate to think what it is unzipped. Well, if you want to put it up, I can d/l it and have a look. mac
