I am not to sure the Poser Forum is the place to ask this,but I will give it a try.I have 768 megs machine powered by an Athlon 1.7 gig chip on a Windows XP Professional platform.I have 12 hard drives 200 gigs in all and Poser Propack and Poser 5 and Vue4 with Mover and Photoshop 7.Also various other bits and pieces like Maz's Objaction mover,P3DO Explorer,UV Mapper and also Adobe Premiere.A nice package if it all worked properly.Things are starting lock up,when I click on one thing,Windows takes forever to make up it's mind if it want's to do what I ask of it, or does what it want's to do.Execute and application files won't won't extract or open at all.Does this mean a reinstall?If it does can someone direct me to tutorial or advice on how to do this as I am a total technical dummy. Hi Have you got 12 hard drives or is that a typo? wondered how you found places to plug them all in!

When you say "things are starting to lock up" I will take it for granted that things where working OK at one point. Sounds like your computer needs a bit of manitance. Even if your a technical dummy you can and should do this on a regular basis.... On your start>programs>acces.>system tools>you'll find Disk Clean Up and Disk Defragmenter.Use the Clean Up first and then defrag all your drives.(This should make a big improvement). Depending on your internet habits,you may want to pick up something like Norton antivirus and scan your system to make sure you haven't picked up some nice little virus. A free program Adaware(sp?)(found on CNet)will rid you of spywear you pick up on the net and your Email..(which slowes things down also). Also,(not saying you do)but if you have any file sharing programs(KaZza,etc) for what ever reason....GET IT OFF,and leave it off.They will screw up your system faster than anything. SWAMP

my suggestions woulod be to check your power supply first and foremost. with as many controler cards you must have for 12 hardrives, you must have at least a 300.. if you dont get one or a 350... any less than 300 i think and your system just might not be getting enough juice to power everything. especially at 1.7ghz.

First thing i would do from the information you gave would be to get a can of air or 2 and go to town cleaning all of the fans and power supplys. Athlon chip set run hotter than heck and it you have poor ventilation it would do simular thing to the examples you mentioned. After that i would do like swamp said except then i would do a THOROUGH scan disk on them. lots of people miss this part and it pretty important. It finds all though little worn out bad spots on the drive. It could be the drive you use for your boot drive is to small and lacks serroius space.

Ouch?!? 12 HD's making 200GB... Surely shome mishtake? Sounds like you're running out of Swapfile space to me... ... unless you've LOADS of memory, your swap-file is the place to look for this problem. If your PSU fails or your CPU is overheating, you will have re-starts. (Black-screen restarts). Delete loads of shite to make extra space on your 12 drives... or invest on a couple of nice new 120GB drives! Depending on your windows version, you're probably better off with several larger drives than 12 small ones. Howard:)
