THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: An Important Question For All Brycers:

The droid figures in the picture are new Poser characters I created and that will soon be available for sale at several sites. This picture is rendered in Bryce (like you couldn't tell, right?;)), and the interesting thing about it is that the figures were POSED IN BRYCE. See, for those who've never tackled it (and I never did until now), Bryce allows linking of objects, and while there's no "bend" feature that would allow boning of organic characters, mechanical figures like these droids work just fine. So... would anyone be interested in buying characters that are posable in Bryce, saved as Bryce .obp object presets? I've checked the stores at all the major sites and I could only find three or four figures of this sort available. Would it be worth the time to package up these and/or other characters this way? Or is the lack of Bryce characters due to a lack of interest in them? Again, these are self-contained figures made to be posable in Bryce through the rotation controls with no other software required. Also, if anyone is interested in this sort of thing, which version of Bryce are you using? I did this in v5, but I have v4 and could redo it there so that they could be used in either version (you can't import v5 .obp's into v4, I already tried ) if there were enough v4 users interested. So what do you think? Great idea or a waste of time?

It's actually a great idea! I'm sure it'll be the quick & efficient way for Brycers to get robots into their scenes without modeling. I'm not sure of the amount of time you have invested, though a lower priced package would move pretty well...a benefit for you and the end user. I would pick up a pckg.

If you do make a Bryce .obp version you might as well just make a .br4 file, either version will be able to use the model then. If you make it .br5 only Bryce 5 will be able to use it. BTW Poser figures can have minor adjustments made the same way, you just can't make big movements. (ie maybe the foot isn't pointing inquite the right direction or something similar). BTW the droids look nice and someone may buy them.

Whoa, the female one's pretty!

Poser products sell lots better then bryce products. However, you could release a seperate bryce-posable and poser-posable version. Or both versions in one product ofcourse.

Bikermouse: Which one is female? :^)

This is not my "second childhood". I'm not finished with the first one yet.

"If you do make a Bryce .obp version you might as well just make a .br4 file, either version will be able to use the model then. If you make it .br5 only Bryce 5 will be able to use it." Actually, I figured on making v4 OBPs, which work in v5, too (though the reverse isn't true, even though there's really nothing new added in a v5 OBP that I know of). In fact, I already have each of these saved as v5 OBPs, but if there are still enough v4 users out there, I'll just redo them in v4. The problem with scene files is that you have info on atmospehere and lights and all, which make the files even bigger. And file size is definitely a problem with Bryce products. I test zipped the 3 v5 OBPs, and the zip is around 9 megs, which is about 3 times the size of the zip of the Poser version of the same package! In the past I considered releasing Bryce versions of my Poser scene sets (restaurant, starship bridge, tavern), but the Bryce files are just too large to make it viable.:( "Poser products sell lots better then bryce products. However, you could release a seperate bryce-posable and poser-posable version. Or both versions in one product ofcourse." Yeah, I already have the Poser version uploaded to a few sites just waiting to pass testing. If I do release a Bryce version, it'll be a separate package. The Poser version will be the set of three figures for $20, but I'd price the Bryce version lower, maybe even half of that, since Bryce products are harder to sell and since you can't export them to other apps from Bryce the way you can from Poser. And as far as the the market being so Poser-centric, personally, I'd love to see that change.;) Unfortunately, Bryce file size alone makes that an uphill battle... :(

Oh, and as for which one is female? Only their mechanic knows for sure.;)

catlin_mc ( ) posted Sat, 17 May 2003 at 7:20 AM

They are lovely models and I do think folk would buy them. There are also still lots of people using Br4 so I think it's probably a good idea to make them in 4. Catlin

Yeah that's what I meant, not actually the scene files but version 4 .obps, sorry.
