First the technical things: The lighting and composition are very good. The POV is strong in this image too. And I like the textures. As for the emotional part; Somehow death hasn't yet succeeded in influencing me negatively. I don't fear death and I know my death isn't coming untill I have completed my life in a way that I know is good. I don't know why, I've just always felt like that. Yet dispite of that this image realy intriques(sp?) me, because it showed me exactly how I look at death. This image reminded me at how I learned to live with death and I feel like sharing that with all you here (because of privacy reasons I'll just call the person who died 'him' or 'he'): I woke up one night because I saw him in my dream. He was lying in a hospital bed and I heard a high continuous tone like in those TV series like ER when someone hart stops beating. I just felt like something bad had happened. About a day later I heard that he had died at exactly the time I woke up from that dream. I was really confused for days, and after a few days I got to say goodbye to him for the last time. I was extremely nervous about it. In fact, it was the first time I ever saw a dead person. But when I finally saw him I simply thought 'yeah, he's dead alright'. Maybe it was because I knew he was dead before anyone told me, but I felt that it was wrong that I wasn't really that sad anymore. After weeks of reflecting the situation I finally realised the truth: I lost my sadness, because I realised that dead always waits for the right moment. I gained much life experience with the whole thing, and this image reminded me of it, because I only noticed the light and the soul going to heaven and the green trees in the background and I knew it was good. It wasn't untill I read the posts of others untill I noticed the grimm surroundings. I hope I can somehow help people accept the uncontrolable force and darkness of death. And if not it's still an explaination of why this image is so amazing.

wow! rayraz! i didn't know that my image has that effect on you! but im glad that you like it!... what i really would like to impart here is that although death is (sometimes) a scary thing... it is not that scary at all. Yes its lonely and sad, but then at the end of the journey, there is a bright light... that shines down on you (or if you lived a reaaaallly bad life a chasm of darkness will appear)... leading to another reality or sumthing like that... and to all who gave and left their comments thnx!
Eyecon, art speaks to the soul. It's as simple as that. I think death can be so hard on people because it creates and existential dilemma. The most common and almost clichexistential question is 'What is the meaning of life?'. Usually death comes before we feel we found the answer to this question. Instead it just adds a second question: 'Is this all there is?'. Somewhere deep in the soul death creates a double emptyness this way. However, if you can find an answer to the first question then the second one becomes less important and you can live with the loss. If the person who died fullfilled the meaning of his existence then it doesn't really matter if it was really all there was within this reality.

T This is my may challenge entry for "uncontrolable forces" DEATH is my theme. since no one is exempted from it, no one can stop it, not even the worlds greatest scientists. Death is also imminent in everywhere, (hence the rotting and decayed backdrop). No matter how much your soul would insist in living, yet it is not possible. Remember the movie GHOST? where did he go... eheheh ::Details:: All modelling except the figures are done with bryce, using terrains and primitives. 9 radial lights and 3 spotlights for lighting with the sun turned off... Rendered within 3 hours... 400= objects with over 9 million polygons. ::Thanks:: 90% of the textures are form mayang.com, the rest are from the free stuff of Bryce... Tnx to all of you! ::MORE:: WIPS and a larger image is featured in my bryce gallery, please check the attached link tnx for looking and more power to all! Happy brycing!
