Subject: Open Challange ! Goddess Challenge

rob3d ( ) posted Mon, 05 June 2000 at 9:09 AM · edited Sat, 23 November 2024 at 5:20 PM

Here is a challenge (My Second) I have wanted to do myself but there is alot to it and it is very diverse. I call it the " Goddess Challenge" go to Encyclopedia Mythica: http://www.pantheon.org/mythica/ Browse the mythology of your choice find a Goddess with a good decriptions and render it with poser etc. Post and all is ok. Make sure to include ethnic background, geography, and all parts of the description. Work-in the areas of life/world that she influences. :-). I am going to try this one myself soon. But I have the Song challange first :-)

CharlieBrown ( ) posted Mon, 05 June 2000 at 12:58 PM

Does this have to be a goddess from "real" mythology, or would a deity from some fictional world (say the Earthdawn game from FASA, or any of TSR, Inc.'s fictional worlds) be fair game? Those often have more detailed, definitive descriptions... :-)

rob3d ( ) posted Mon, 05 June 2000 at 3:53 PM

Since we are talking about "Mythology" and it being fiction for the most part. I can't see why this fiction is better the another fiction :-)... go for it Post the descriptions however :-)

Well, Callisto, the Psycho Goddess of Revenge, is probably not what you are looking for however, I will produce an image complying with your requirements. Consider my entry a wasteful interuption to your challenge (Callisto would have wanted it that way).

Xurge ( ) posted Mon, 05 June 2000 at 8:47 PM

Count me in. I will go with Sakhmet, the Egyptian goddess of war and vengeance.

This sounds like fun! I think I'll try this too. (Of course, mine'll take a while. I'm still stumbling through Gecko's challenge.) Rosh

Locke ( ) posted Thu, 08 June 2000 at 12:35 AM

I think I'll give this one a try as well. Already have two other things on my plate but this is too good to pass up. I am going to attempt to do Anath, the Chief West Semitic goddess of love and war. Locke

Wynter ( ) posted Thu, 08 June 2000 at 8:25 PM

Oh, I like this one, too. I'll join in, if this is an open challenge. Can't decide between Brigid and Nemetona... Merry Meet, rob3d and Hawkfyr

Wynter ( ) posted Thu, 08 June 2000 at 8:28 PM

uh...duh, just reread the post title..."Open Challenge", just got so excited when I saw the word "Goddess", the rest of it didn't penetrate my wee brain.

rob3d ( ) posted Thu, 08 June 2000 at 8:29 PM

do a poser figure of a goddess.. your choice :-)

Milaja ( ) posted Fri, 09 June 2000 at 7:43 AM

this sounds like a lot of fun!! I think I'm going for, Blodeuwedd (celtic) a beautiful woman created out of flowers, non-human without a soul..... the rest of the story comes with the picture..... can't wait to see the results!!! B*B Tanja

Milaja ( ) posted Fri, 09 June 2000 at 7:45 AM

oh, I think I read the challenge a little too fast (I'll blame it on my poor english). Does it have to be a goddess or is it ok if it's a charachter well known in the myth? Tanja

rob3d ( ) posted Fri, 09 June 2000 at 8:03 AM

I was looking for a goddess or female character in mythology. Something that has a good history or background so if it meets that go for it !

Wynter ( ) posted Fri, 09 June 2000 at 5:39 PM

Love your idea, Tanja, can't wait to see it...

Milaja ( ) posted Sat, 10 June 2000 at 7:25 AM

Hi Wynter, I can't wait to see it either =) working on the flowers right now.... gee I don't know how much time this one will take.... but it's fun! I haven't been working with poser in a while cause I couldn't enjoy myself anymore... all the fun was gone. But this, this is something else, haven't had so much fun for ages!! (sorry for my bad english) Who are Brigid and Nemetona? Tanja

Wynter ( ) posted Sat, 10 June 2000 at 8:30 PM

Brigid: (Irish, Scottish) also Brid, Bidget, Bride and Brighid. Her name comes from brigh, meaning "power". The great mother goddess of Ireland. Brigid represents the heavenly mother, fertility, and creative inspiration. She has also been worshipped as a warrioress and protectress, a healer, a guardian of children, a slayer of serpents, and a Goddess of fire and the sun. Other sources say she was the Goddess of agriculture, animal husbandry, medicine, crafting, music and poety. Nemetona: She is the guardian deity of all sacred places such as circles or magickal groves. Yesterday I was looking at a chapter (dictionary of Celtic goddesses and Heroines), in a book I have, and also got some interesting ideas. So I'm not sure which one I'll do. Deciding tonight though, as I want to get a start on it tomorrow. Glad to hear you're having fun, and in my opinion your english is perfectly fine. Happy Posing!
