Some folks mentioned they thought they saw writing scratched into some of the canyon walls in my recent series from Mathessin State Park. [Someone else thought they saw a face, but he sometimes also hears voices.] Yes, lots of scratchings. Most seem to be fairly old, maybe even from before they reversed the direction of the river. Moss covered. Scratching on top of scratchings. This shot is actually from last year at nearby Starved Rock. One of these days maybe I'll re-scan the negatives and try some heavy-duty contrast enhancement.

You must have pretty impressive vision if you can read that! Yes, some contrast would truly help. So what type of rock is it that makes it so easy for people to etch into it?

I increased contrast and dearcreased brightness and made a 180 degrees rotation. Maybe we can read somtething like "OUT !" or "OUI !" which means YES in French.
