Not the best, but after i got home i sure wasn't gonna go hike back out there to retake the shot (6 miles) still trying to figure out this camera of mine.

I am not familiar with this forum and hang around in the 2D section instead. Are color corrections and retouching welcomed? I saw your picture and felt it would be good material to apply new skills I just read about. Let me know if is OK! Christophe

Here it goes: I removed the purplish cast and increased the contrast a tad. If you have photoshop, I'll send you the file. I like the compostion. Christophe

wow wonderful :D looks great now :) how did you remove the purplish cast to it? the other i know how to do

I kinda liked it with the purpleish cast- it gave the impression of a very old photograph. The corrected image is great too, it draws your eyes down the rows and gives more of an impression of spring.

I am reading 'Photoshop Restoration & Retouchiing' by Katrin Eisman. It walks you through the different stages of image restoration in a very no-nonsense way. I first put 3 color samplers: the first one in the deep shadow of the thicket in the lower left corner, the 2nd on in one of the white tag highlights, and the 3rd in what I thought should be neutral n the dirt toward the upper right corner. I had actually used a threshold layer to figure out my best shadow and highlight locations, that I later discarded once the samplers where in place. I read the following RGB values: shadow: 38, 45, 36 neutral: 140, 123, 153 highlight: 216, 214, 253 Because all of those should be neutral, I needed to align the numbers using a curve layer following these guidelines: shadow to lowest number B 36 by decreasing R 38 and G 45 neutral to medium number R 140 by boosting G 123 and decreasing B 153 highlight to highest B 253 by increasing R 216 and G 214. I modified the curve on a channel by channel basis adding each time 3 points: red: 38,36 - 140,140 - 216,253 blue: 36,36 - 153,140 - 253,253 green: 45,36 - 123,140 - 214,253 This allowed me to get a color balanced picture. Because it was still a bit flat, I then added another curve layer in multiply mode where I pulled the RGB toward the upper left corner in order to lighten a bit the muliply effect (total question of personnal taste at this time ;-) unlike the color balance). Christophe

Well, we have two images here so youve just got to compare them. The second is very straight Im not sure about the level of green looks like its been shot on Velvia. I personally like the original it has atmosphere and a cool feeling about it. :0 )
