Subject: SR3 for Poser5 - This may help...

Hi all! This may well be old news, but nonetheless, some may find it useful. I tried again tonight to use the new SR3, Serial Release 3, to update my Poser 5. Could NOT get the zip or exe to work. Tried & tried to email CuriousLabs for help, but couldn't even get my email to go through. Thoroughly PO'ed, & after a coupla beers, I went to the EGISYS site to vent my spleen (auf deutsch). After a satisfying venting, I poked around their site, & lo & behold, they offered an SR3 (englisch) download (choice of .exe or .zip). I downloaded the .exe (slow, at about 40kb/s), executed it...and IT WORKED!!! No "CRC" errors. So if you've had the same problem, try going to the EGISYS site: http://www.egisys.com/downloads/?lang=EN&res=high&path=

Hello After applying SR3 what version information should show in the "about" box? Thanks, Frederick C. Wilt

After applying SR3 the Version showing in your Help>About Poser screen should read "v5.0.2.281"

Thank you very much. Now I can find out if SR3 actually installed since it complained that I did not have Poser 5 installed at all. Not a good feeling when CL can't even write an installation routine that finds the existing installation. Regards, Frederick C. Wilt

Hi, I'm glad if that was helpful, but actually the problem you're having doesn't sound related to the one I had. I simply could not get any of the SR3 files from the CL site to work. I downloaded them several times in order to ensure that the problem wasn't merely due to a faulty download, but they still wouldn't even unzip. ("Bad CRC" errors). I believe the files at CL are corrupted. I downloaded the same files both .zip & .exe for both SR3 & SR3-Figures from the Egisys site, & they worked just fine. I contacted Egisys about this, so hopefully they will straighten the matter out with the CL site. Re the problem you mentioned, let me slog through my grey matter to see if I can think of anything. Do you have Poser4 installed? If so, do you have Poser5 installed in a DIFFERENT Folder, I hope? Next, locate precisely where the file(s) "Poser.exe" is. Use "Search" or "Find" for all your hard drives. When the window displays all/any of the poser.exe's in your system you can ignore any that are 1kb shortcuts or links, but right-click any others, click Properties, & then click the Version Tab. You should have just one that is version 5.xxx. You may also have one that is version 4.xxx. But you can't have both in the same Folder. Well, hopefully some of that may be useful & gets you somewhere. Any more questions, please feel free to ask.

Hi Thanks for the feedback. Poser5 is up and running showing the version number you provided so it seems the SR3 installed ok. I have had problems in the past with updates for Poser claiming that Poser wasn't installed. I do have both 4 and 5 installed but neither one is installed in the "default" directory so perhaps that is confusing the update programs. In any case I seem to have SR3 installed. Regards, Frederick C. Wilt

Awright! Glad to hear you're good to go. I've been using Poser for some time. I have had to resign myself to the fact that it's a "Challenge", no matter what version you have. :) Still, I have no intention of stopping using it! ...Knuten
