Oh, this is going to be a hard one. Some very good entries! Good luck, everybody. :)

Just to let y'all know, I've had some votes IMed already. Cheers!

Okay, it seems that I'm the first to vote publically... Yes, I'm still alive... I had a pretty busy may, so I missed the entry... Yes, I wrote a piece for the challenge, but I postponed the posting, and now I came back and found the thread locked :( Never mind, I enjoyed the others'... There are several pieces I like, for different reasons... It is a very hard choice... I think my vote'll go to miden1138 (maybe due to the fact I live in a city and I feel this piece) But I like a lot also dialyin's one (especially the close) and I like burningrock's (even if I have some difficulties in placing it in the 'description of a place' asked in the theme, but, again, maybe it's my problem with the language that makes me uncapable to understand something)

Lots of good stories here. Makes it hard to pick just one. My vote goes to JSTRO. Vivid description of a desert oasis. I liked it. This is my first time trying a challenge here. It was fun, I'll have to do it again! Mike

Hi jgeorge, You're right, the scene I wrote does skirt the edges of the theme. I started one thing and ended up with another - a scene about a sense of place, the place we all arrive where life gives us a cold splash of reality. This can happen any where. You could say that Sandra is in herself, more cognitive and circumstantial than geographical. It's similar to the place I once was when I first joined the army. It was 3 in the morning, I had slept for two hours, and some crazy man stormed into the bay yelling, and pulling us out of bed. Did you ever see the movie "Full Metal Jacket?" Well, he looked like that Drill Sergeant. For a few seconds I was at a place were I realized that maybe joining the Army was a bad idea, but it was too late. It's a place where and when some type of change must be made. Actually the army turned out to not be as bad as I thought. As for the scene, it has nothing to do with your understanding of the language. You're mostly right about it not fitting the parameters. If it was a pitch, it would probrably be out of the strike zone. I'm just unconventional like that; some times I go into my own world, but that's ok cause they know me there.

Oh! To me it happens tousands of times, I start with something and it ends exactly another thing. If I mentioned you piece it was really because I like it. (And I could never join the army, I'm too much an independent spirit... Not that have something against who joins it, I simply have some problems in seeing me obeying orders.)

burningrock ( ) posted Wed, 28 May 2003 at 9:57 AM

I agree about the problems of obeying orders, but at a certian point, I was influencial in gettingthings done, and people obeyed my orders. What is your native language?
