Those of you who have Millennium Walk Designer form Nerd3D have probably been wondering when I'd get the updates for P5-SR3 ready.

Well it's finally done. If you have Poser 5 visit the download page for MWD at Nerd3D to get you update. If you purchased the Walk Designer here or at any other outlet send me an email with your user handle and when you purchased. I'll get you a link and password to retrieve the update.

I need to thank CL for helping me sort out some problems I was having with the new walk designer changes. Without their help I would have never got it working.

I JUST added this to my cart!! And was thinking of emailing you about the SR3 release. I read ALL of your info on the site and was really wondering about this as you never addressed SR3. THANKS!! -Tim PS> Will your walks work with varying height heels? I'm specifically looking at using Vickie Essentials.

The highest heel blend is 6" you can get other heel heights by blending with the standard walk cycle. I'll be updating the write up in the R'osity store as soon.

Please read the installation instructions as they are very specific for Poser 5.

I should also mention some of the things I found out while working on this update. First use the uncompressFiles.py to decompress the Walk Designer folder (delete the original p2z files) it really speeds up loading walk designer.

If you have trouble with walk designer freezing after changing the figure type you should reinstall poser clean. You can restore character, geometry and texture folders. Don't restore the entire runtime folder, it will just fry the new instalation.

If you have trouble with walk designer freezing after changing the figure type you should reinstall poser clean. Errggh. What are the odds of this happening? And why would it happen? I really don't have time to reinstall P5 right now ... it would be a MAJOR P.I.T.A. -Tim

If it works now, it will continue to work. Test it. Load walk designer, change the figure type. See if the blends change the walk style as they are supposed to. I seems the trouble seems to come from files in the prefs folder not being updated with the SR3 update. If WD is wigging out you may be able to delete that folder, and do an "over the top" reinstall and update to get it working. Never tired it but it seems it would work. I just figured out the source of the walk designer freeze ups today. CL has not had time to analyze the information I sent them and get back with me yet. They may come up with an easier fix. ngsmall02.gif

Also, could you explain this in a little more detail: First use the uncompressFiles.py to decompress the Walk Designer folder (delete the original p2z files) it really speeds up loading walk designer. Do you delete the p2z files first, then run the python script? Also, I've never run that script ... I assume it's pretty self-explanatory? Thanks, Tim

From the MWD ReadMe file FAQs. I need to get this on the web somewhere...

(Q) Walk Designer takes FOREVER to load!

(A) Decompress the walk blends with the Python Script provided with Poser 5. Walk
designer loads much faster when it doesn't have to decompress the files first.
From the File menu select Run Python Script.... Browse the Poser folder and find
the script named, "uncompressPoserFiles.py" and open it. Type in the path to
your pose/WalkDesigner folder. (If you don't do this it will decompress all your
Poser library files) Be sure to check the "Delete Original Files"
option. and Click OK. Walk Designer should load in less than half the time now.

Ok, thanks for the info. I have changed the figure type but haven't noted whether the "blends change the walk style as they are supposed to" really. I'll check that out right now. Although, how do I know what they are "supposed" to look like. Or do you just mean, so that they don't do something awkward? -Tim

If you dial the "sneak" blend to 200% you will definitely see a change in the way the figure walks ;-) ngsmall02.gif

Did the uncompression/deletion ... still takes a little while, but I guess it is faster. Thanks! Loaded a different figure type. The blend styles did appear to work ... well, at least as well as ever. They still do the "LEG SPAZZ" thing ... but that's normal right?

If you dial the "sneak" blend to 200% you will definitely see a change in the way the figure walks ;-) I'D SAY!!!! LOL! Looks pretty much like a contestant at the Special Olympics at that point really. Guess everything is A-OK then. Thanks again.

Yeah, the walk path thing is a little better in SP3 but most blends do the River Dance thing when used on a path. I highly recommend using the "Walk in Place" option and placing the figure by hand for lateral movement. ngsmall02.gif
