Subject: Any good terrains shaders for Carrara?

I'm thinking about to move over to Carrara to use it as a master renderer instead of Bryce. I have been using Bryce until now since it covers the most elements for rendering the "world." I see Carrara can do most of these elements, excepts for that I don't see any presets shaders for the terrains it offers.

I would like to take advantage of the procedural shader that is within the program and wonder if there is a site to get hold of Carrara pre-setted shaders used for the terrains?

I'm hoping for some real good comes out of the Eovia - Curious Lab partnership too. A Poser animation import would be nice?

I am a recent crossover from Bryce and am still learning much about C2. And I was never very good at terrain modeling anyhow but I have a few observations. C2 doesn't have the sky and terrain controls that Bryce does but it has enough for the basics and I think you can learn to improvise from there. For instance, terrains and their material maps can be exported from Bryce for use in C2, so design away in the DTE and export it. Panoramic mapping for 360 sky maps is easy in C2 also. Slope and altitude are variables in C2's shaders. There aren't any real preset shaders though, you'd have to create your own. The difference in rendering speeds, IMHO, more than makes up for any lack of features. Ed

This is an example of a 1024x1024 USGS DEM file converted to a grayscale tif & displaced to an AnythingGrooves plane in Carrara V1. The color shader has two nested color mixers, bumps and an overall Glow channel mixer useing Black & White colors that are mixed with an Elevation in the X axis (front to back) to wash out the colors towards the distance. The tree was added in Painter with a nozzel (Digarts Jungle 3D). I didn't bother with the Glow channel on the river. I believe that litst has a few shaders in the marketplace here and there were several at the Carrara Yahoo list done by Dan and a couple others. The procedural shaders will slow down your renders if they become too complicated.

But does anyone know how the shaders for Carrara that is sold here is, the "Carrara Shades of Reality" by Hawkin-Z GraF-X? I see in the feature list that it contains 20 terrain shaders, but there is no sample images of them.

I have tried to use the terrain exported from Bryce, but I don't find the right Bryce export - Carrara import parameters that will give a good result.

Anyone knows good parameters here?

Have'nt tried Hawkins' shaders but you can get a few of the Lots of Shaders by litst at his site. He has around 10 or so rock & terrain procedural shaders in the pak & 1 or 2 in the samples. Bryce export would only work as an image to be used as a texture map.

Couple more terrain shaders here.
