Subject: linked Runtime?

Insom_Nia ( ) posted Mon, 02 June 2003 at 4:38 PM ยท edited Tue, 18 February 2025 at 11:40 AM

Hello,

is it possible to link the poser.exe on my internal C Drive
to the Runtime on my new and muuuuuch bigger external HD?
How would I do that?
Would Poser still work?

Somebody told me to maintain stability and good performance I had to reinstall Poser on my C Drive but the Runtime is just too much...

Dani

(I can hardly work with my Poser on C anymore...)

Do you have Poser 4, Poser 4/Pro Pack, or Poser 5?

Oh sorry, also: I work with Poser Pro Pack on a Win98SE, Pentium II, 192 RAM. My C Drive has 6 GB and my new external HD (from Maxtor) 80 GB! Dani

You can quite safely just copy the WHOLE POSER FOLDER onto your new drive. Then run it from there. You'll have to correct the Start/Program shortcuts, though, to point to the new Poser.exe file. This is perfectly safe and will be fine. I'd recommend you leave the originel Poser folder on your C: drive for a little while to make sure everything's OK... But for best Poserness, I'd recommed you make loads of space for Page file on C:... unless you move your swapfile to tyour new drive. H:)

Exception: if you have anything using the injection morph system (INJ/REM) such as DAZ's Victoria 3, leave that in the original Runtime, the same one where your Poser is. Otherwise it may get weird. :)

Thank you, I will do that! Dani

Since I'm having the exact same problem (full C: drive, nice big new D: drive), just wanted to be sure that this won't cause problems with Windows Registry? I'd be moving Poser 5. Thanks!

I have been seriously looking at an external HD also. They appear to be hooked up with USB 2.0. Are they fast enough to not slow the opening of directories or rendering?
