Subject: The future of Stephanie?

MartinW ( ) posted Mon, 02 June 2003 at 7:01 AM · edited Sat, 30 November 2024 at 1:36 AM

Hi all.

Having just upgraded to Vicky 3 (wow) and never having yet bought Stephanie, can I ask what the future for Stephanie is?

Are there going to be many more character packs, textures, clothes, etc., developed for her?

Any idea what Daz is planning?

A graceful retirement to the 'loft' perhaps?

I like the look of this model, love some of the items created for her, but don't really want to purchase a 'dead end' if that is what she is...

Thanks in advance for all your wise input,
Martin

I have Stephanie and like her very much. But I doubt that anything more will be done with her. Since she can wear Vicky 2's clothing, there isn't too much out there that is just Stephanie specific. I'm not sure what the modelers and texture artists will do with her from this point, but I wouldn't count on Daz doing anything more with her really. But since I don't work for Daz, you can't really quote me on that ;o). Just my two cents ;o). Laurie

I've never used Stephanie. I got her so I could get Aiko.

She is based on Mike and since they are working on Mike 3 I wouldn't give up on her just yet. 8^) Marque

...is up to us. If the consumers like and use a model and buy the add-ons, the people who make clothing and props will sell into that market. Sometimes they aren't very courageous, and continue to make the same stuff which sold last year (just like in the real world where the garment industry is always complaining about clothing left on the racks unpurchased, but fail to offer anything new and vital). I like Stephanie very much. I tend to use her over Victoria (any version). The fact that she shares common ground with Michael allows crossover ability with textures and morph targets (more or less). I bet if someone did a male-morph set for her, she'd make a good slim guy. Her sporty, non-glamourous look out-of-the-box is good for making a better variety of characters. It hasn't been explored much, but I know of an awesome character "kit" in the works for her which will more than prove her versatility. When I make clothing, I keep Steph in mind. There are differences between her and Vic in bodyshapes and I make sure there's base compatibility with both characters. I still think Steph has great potential and is a solid figure.

I like Stephanie over Vicky any day. I like that I can transfer some of M2's head morphs via MorphManager and vice versa. Thus having more options to create different characters. Dave

I love Steph too. Agree with everyone above. Slim guy? Well, there's a male Aiko, that's begging to be turned into a proper non-anime male. I may get to it one day, but I'd like to see others try their hand at it as well.

I really like Steph. At the time, Vicki 2 was out, Steph was a great alternative female figure as the two looked nothing alike. Now that Vicki 3 is out, a number of features which were unique to Steph were absorbed by V3. Vicki 3 has the added advantage of being interchangeable between male and female forms. Since versality is the most desired trait of any figure, it could be possible that development on Michael 3 includes the ability to switch from Mike to Steph. I hope that possibility exists :)

BTW... it's not only a question of Steph's fate, but also the Milkids/baby who haven't had much out for them either.

There was a thread (or something in a thread) back when V3 was announced/released that Steph as is was it. She's a collectable. Of course I could be wrong...

Yeah, Anton mentioned she was a once-in-a-lifetime offer. However, if DAZ made V3 interchangeable between male and female forms, it's reasonable to presume they may do the same with M3.

bijouchat ( ) posted Tue, 03 June 2003 at 3:35 AM

not the first time Anton had it wrong about what they were doing at DAZ though. Only person to believe is one of the regular staff there, if it doesn't come from them it ain't official :)

This is what I am hoping for with Steph. I will even say pretty please. ;-)

bijouchat ( ) posted Sun, 22 June 2003 at 10:50 PM

very pretty. I really like Stephanie as well. She was the reason I finally sprung for M2, back in the mystery model promotion. I'd like to see another dual character like V3 for the future M3 too. (regarding my last comment - its nothing negative about Anton, just companies have a tendancy to change their minds and you can't know what the big bosses decide, and can't know how they might change their minds a few months down the road either. Better to not say anything in those cases, and wait until the product materialises... I myself have been bitten by situations like this at other companies when plans have changed, and what I said a week before was wrong a week later, so I have some idea what I'm talking about.) As in a V3 copyright thread some time back. Now I know what I can do with a V3 CR2 and what I cannot regarding redistribution, which Steve Kondris clarified for me. (and is also very clear now on the website, too)

Wouldn't it be neat if she had JCM, like V3, only injectible, including gravity effects? Then she could lay on her back, bend her knee so far her foot almost touched her rear, raise an arm above her head, and she'd wouldn't crumple or get all bent out of shape.

I imagine she'd look something like the bottom one, with no postwork.
