I think the tripod is essential for this kind of shots, cos, in my opinion, more time is more detail... and low ASA level (100)

Oh yes, tripod is essential. If you have a timer, you can set it to go off and then set the camera down so it becomes stable before the shot is taken but a tripod will make all the difference.

I am still discover my Canon G2 and gonna use my tripod ;/ Thanks for the advise RS
