Subject: Gemstones for Poser 5

Anyone know of any nice looking gemstones like diamonds, emeralds, etc that will work on P5? Or node settings to make a passable texture for one? I found some objects but I'm not getting anywhere making it look decent. Thanks.

I beleive that 3D Lapidiary just posted a Poser ready gemstone model ... at the very least thay have very many gemstone models in various formats which can be modified. You might be on your own for materials, but most colored glass materials should work fairly well in most cases.

yes, 3dlapidary is the best link. but getting realy beautiful gemstones in p5 is very difficult, the raytracer in p5 is not the best :-((

Robin Miller, who created the Poser4 prop and textures, and donated them to 3D Lapidary, is (as time permits her) currently working on figuring out P5 gemstone material settings. As 'thgeisel' said, the main problem is the rendering engine in P5. I'm sure many P5 users will want to see the results!

I tried some of the 3D Lapidary stones in Poser 5. The .dxf versions load fine, but I had to convert them to .obj format and run them through UVMapper first before applying any refraction or reflection shader nodes.

Ohh nice animation of the gem stone L.D. I was going to download it but decided against it because i want sure how well the DXF would work in P4 as well as what settings i should use. They were pretty temping though if you could get it to render nicely. Still looks like i am SOL for P4 though and i do not have Carrara. I do have anton's dimaond set i might try and see if i can use his settings on them .

the main problem in P5 is the refraction is kinda awful. Sure you can raytrace the gemstones but the raytraced refraction in P5 is a major disappointment. You don't see much internal refraction. I'll have to cheat I'm afraid in similar ways as I cheated for the P4 diamond, but I'm working on it.
